Line Cook Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a line cook in New York?
No state-issued license is required to work as a line cook in New York, but a Food Protection Certificate issued by the New York City Department of Health is required for supervisory kitchen roles in the city and is a strong competitive credential everywhere in the state. Most employers expect either a culinary arts program from a school like the Institute of Culinary Education or the Culinary Institute of America, or documented station experience in a professional kitchen.
Which companies hire line cooks in New York?
Employers hiring line cooks in New York right now include American Golf Corporation, Dave & Buster's, and Troon, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's density of hotels, hospital systems, and independent restaurant groups means openings are spread across a wide range of employer types and service styles.
Which New York cities have the most line cook jobs?
The cities with the most line cook openings in New York are New York, Brooklyn, and Amenia. New York City dominates the distribution because of its unmatched concentration of hotels, fine-dining restaurants, catering operations, and large healthcare employers, while Buffalo and Albany generate consistent volume through institutional foodservice accounts tied to regional hospital networks and university dining programs.
Are there remote line cook jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're extremely rare. About 0% of line cook openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how thoroughly hands-on kitchen work is by nature. The only line cook-adjacent tasks that occasionally appear in hybrid or remote postings involve menu development, recipe writing, or culinary consulting roles rather than traditional station work.
How can I get hired as a line cook in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a prep cook or kitchen assistant role with a large institutional employer such as a hospital system, university dining program, or hotel group, which are more likely than independent restaurants to train from scratch. Sodexo and Compass Group both operate entry-level culinary associate programs in New York. Completing even a short-term culinary certificate at a community college and holding a current Food Handler card from the New York City Department of Health will distinguish an inexperienced applicant from the competition.
Where can I find and apply to line cook jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to line cook jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Find roles that fit your experience and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that match.
