Logistics Planner Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a logistics planner in California?
Most logistics planner roles in California require a bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business, or industrial engineering as the baseline. California does not issue a state license specific to this role, but employers consistently prefer candidates who hold APICS certifications such as the CPIM or CSCP, which are nationally recognized credentials available through local APICS chapters across California. Gaining experience in purchasing, inventory control, or operations coordination at California distribution centers or manufacturers is the most direct path.
How much do logistics planners make in California?
Logistics planners in California earn a median of about $92,890 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $57,720 for the lowest 10% to over $153,220 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire logistics planners in California?
Employers hiring logistics planners in California right now include Benefit Cosmetics, Meta, and Amax Engineering, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of major ports, aerospace contractors, and e-commerce fulfillment infrastructure means logistics planner demand is spread across a particularly wide range of industries compared to most states.
Which California cities have the most logistics planner jobs?
Fremont, San Francisco, and San Jose have the most logistics planner openings in California. Los Angeles and the Inland Empire dominate because of the Port of Los Angeles, Port of Long Beach, and the dense concentration of distribution centers and fulfillment operations in San Bernardino and Riverside counties, while the Bay Area's volume is driven by major tech and e-commerce headquarters with large global supply chains.
Are there remote logistics planner jobs in California?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely desk-based fields, since logistics planning often requires on-site coordination with warehouses, distribution centers, or manufacturing floors. About 11% of logistics planner openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting that some planning and analytics functions can be done off-site. Demand forecasting, network modeling, and procurement analysis roles are the sub-areas most likely to offer remote flexibility.
How can I get hired as a logistics planner in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a logistics coordinator or inventory control associate role at a California distribution center or aerospace manufacturer, where hands-on exposure to ERP systems and procurement cycles builds the foundation employers look for. Large California employers such as Amazon and Kaiser Permanente run rotational operations programs that place candidates into supply chain functions. Completing an APICS CPIM certification while working in an adjacent role like warehouse supervisor or purchasing assistant can accelerate the move into a planning title.
Where can I find and apply to logistics planner jobs in California?
