Manufacturing Jobs in Rhode Island: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a manufacturing worker in Rhode Island?
Most manufacturing roles in Rhode Island are entered through a combination of vocational training and on-the-job experience rather than a state-issued license. Community College of Rhode Island offers certificate and associate degree programs in manufacturing technology, machining, and industrial maintenance that Rhode Island employers recognize. Completing an apprenticeship through the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training is one of the most direct paths into skilled trades roles at larger manufacturers in the state.
Which companies hire manufacturing workers in Rhode Island?
Companies currently hiring manufacturings in Rhode Island include Amgen, Anduril, and L3Harris, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Rhode Island's defense and precision metals sector means many of the most consistent openings come from aerospace suppliers and medical device manufacturers with long-standing production facilities in the Providence metro and surrounding communities.
Which Rhode Island cities have the most manufacturing jobs?
North Kingstown, West Greenwich, and Cranston account for the largest share of manufacturing openings in Rhode Island. Providence anchors the market as the state's largest metro, while Cranston and Woonsocket draw hiring from established defense suppliers, plastics processors, and industrial equipment manufacturers that have operated facilities in those communities for decades.
Are there remote manufacturing jobs in Rhode Island?
Yes, but they're rare. About 13% of manufacturing openings tied to Rhode Island are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, because most roles require physical presence on a production floor or in a quality lab. The exceptions tend to be process engineering, supply chain coordination, and manufacturing program management roles where the work is primarily analytical and can be done off-site.
How can I get hired as a manufacturing worker in Rhode Island with little or no experience?
The most realistic starting point is enrolling in a short-term certificate program at Community College of Rhode Island, which feeds directly into entry-level production associate and machine operator roles at Rhode Island employers. The Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training runs registered apprenticeship programs that place candidates with manufacturers who train on the job. Lateral entry from warehouse, logistics, or assembly roles at distribution and packaging facilities in Cranston and Providence is also a common path into full manufacturing positions.
Where can I find and apply to manufacturing jobs in Rhode Island?
You can find and apply to manufacturing jobs in Rhode Island on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your background and location, and apply directly through the listing.
