Marketing Consultant Jobs in Rhode Island: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a marketing consultant in Rhode Island?
Marketing consulting in Rhode Island has no state-issued license or board registration requirement. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field, plus demonstrated project experience. Building a portfolio of campaign results, client work, or case studies is the most effective step. Rhode Island's concentration of healthcare systems, financial institutions, and universities means that sector-specific knowledge in any of those areas strengthens a candidacy considerably.
How much do marketing consultants make in Rhode Island?
Marketing consultants in Rhode Island earn a median of about $86,240 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $49,020 for the lowest 10% to over $129,540 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire marketing consultants in Rhode Island?
Companies currently hiring marketing consultants in Rhode Island include Gilbane, CVS Health, and Teknor Apex Company, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Rhode Island's base of insurance carriers, hospital networks, and private universities also generates steady consulting demand beyond the largest individual employers.
Which Rhode Island cities have the most marketing consultant jobs?
Providence, Smithfield, and Pawtucket have the most marketing consultant openings in Rhode Island. Providence dominates because it concentrates the state's corporate headquarters, major healthcare systems, and universities, while Warwick draws demand from insurance and financial services employers clustered near T.F. Green Airport, and smaller cities like Cranston reflect suburban office expansion tied to those same anchor industries.
Are there remote marketing consultant jobs in Rhode Island?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 25% of marketing consultant openings tied to Rhode Island are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the work centers on strategy, copywriting, and campaign management that does not require on-site presence. Brand strategy and digital marketing roles are the most likely to be listed as fully remote, while event-driven or account management roles typically require some in-person time with clients.
How can I get hired as a marketing consultant in Rhode Island with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a marketing coordinator or communications associate role at one of Rhode Island's large healthcare systems, insurance carriers, or universities, such as Lifespan, Amica Mutual, or Brown University, which regularly bring on junior marketing staff. Building a portfolio through freelance projects, nonprofit campaigns, or student consulting clinics at Rhode Island School of Design or Providence College strengthens an application. Moving laterally from a communications, public relations, or market research role is another well-traveled door into consulting work in the state.
