Job Description
Step into your new role!
As an Entry Level Construction Materials Engineering and Testing (CoMET) Technician you will be exposed and trained to perform routine quality control test procedures on commercial, industrial, public and private construction projects from the ground up. No experience required! We are committed to investing in our team members and will provide training and advancement opportunities through technician certification programs. Three openings for this position are available in Owings Mills, MD area. Technicians will require reliable transportation to access job sites within a two-hour radius of office location.
Once trained you will be able to:
- Read and understand applicable construction plans and specifications
- Perform Field Observations and Materials Sampling/Testing during Construction of Buildings, Bridges and Roadways.
- Perform testing on construction materials including Soils, Reinforcing Steel, Concrete, Compaction grouting, Masonry, Structural Steel, Fireproofing, Metal Decking, Roofing and Paving.
- Write Daily Field Reports documenting work performed by the various contractors and indicating compliance/non-compliance with contract documents, plans and specifications.
- Cast Field Samples of Concrete, Masonry, Grout, etc. for strength verification.
- Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and other design professionals
- Provide daily or milestone updates to Department Manager
- Pick-up construction material samples and deliver to laboratory, deliver equipment to site technicians.
- Actively participate and demonstrate commitment to Kleinfelder’s Health and Safety culture.
Certification/Registration:
Kleinfelder requires our technicians to acquire the following certifications within first 6 months of employment – at our expense.
- Nuclear Density Gage Certification, ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician Grade I or, Local Jurisdiction
- Equivalent to ACI, as required by local jurisdiction and local management team
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Ability to work independently and as a team member, maintain composure, and work effectively in a high-pressure environment with changing priorities.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to use a company provided laptop or iPad and a working knowledge of MS Office programs (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Authorization to work in the United States
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and ability to pass drug test.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Bend, stoop, and lift up-to 50 pounds (22.68 kg) repetitively and over 50 pounds (22.68 kg) using handling equipment (hand truck, etc.).
- Ability to operate heavy equipment as necessary (i.e., ultrasonic non-destructive testing machine, concrete cylinder press, etc.).
- Ability to maintain safe mobility over construction obstacles by foot and ladder, traversing over rough broken ground and steep surfaces.
- Ability to work outside in variable weather at field sites and in labs with various levels of safety protection required.
Desired Qualifications
- Construction-related training or technical training desirable
- ACI or ICC certification desired

The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the Maryland Wage Transparency Law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience. Hourly pay range: $14.55 - $24.30.
