Medical Doctor Jobs in Alaska: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a medical doctor in Alaska?
To practice as a medical doctor in Alaska, you must obtain a license from the Alaska State Medical Board, which requires a medical degree from an accredited institution, completion of an accredited residency, and passage of the USMLE or COMLEX exam series. Alaska does not participate in a multi-state licensure compact for physicians, so each applicant applies directly to the Board. Physicians from other states may apply for licensure by endorsement if they meet Alaska's requirements.
Which companies hire medical doctors in Alaska?
Alaska medical doctor roles are posted by SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium, Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC), and International SOS and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Alaska's physician hiring is driven heavily by large integrated health systems, tribal health organizations, and federally qualified health centers serving both urban and remote communities across the state.
Which Alaska cities have the most medical doctor jobs?
Anchorage, Juneau, and Fairbanks have the most medical doctor openings in Alaska. Anchorage leads because it is home to the state's largest hospital systems and specialty clinics, while Fairbanks and Juneau support regional medical centers and state government health facilities that generate consistent physician demand across general practice and specialty areas.
Are there remote medical doctor jobs in Alaska?
Yes, but they're rare. About 7% of medical doctor openings tied to Alaska are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the hands-on, patient-facing nature of most physician roles. The positions most likely to include a remote or telehealth component are in psychiatry, primary care telemedicine, and utilization review or medical consulting roles where direct examination is not required.
How can I get hired as a medical doctor in Alaska with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path for physicians with limited post-training experience is applying through residency-to-employment pipelines at Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium or Providence Alaska Medical Center, both of which recruit new residency graduates for hospitalist and primary care positions. The Indian Health Service also places new physicians in Alaska through its loan repayment and placement programs at tribal clinics. A full Alaska State Medical Board license and active board eligibility give candidates a clear competitive edge over those still completing exam requirements.
Where can I find and apply to medical doctor jobs in Alaska?
You can find and apply to medical doctor jobs in Alaska on Migrate Mate, which lists current Alaska openings across hospitals, health systems, tribal clinics, and private practices. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your specialty and location preferences, and apply directly to each employer through the listing.
