Nurse Navigator Jobs in Montana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a nurse navigator in Montana?
Start by obtaining or holding an active Montana registered nurse license through the Montana State Board of Nursing, which requires passing the NCLEX-RN exam. Most Montana employers expect a BSN and at least two years of clinical experience in a relevant specialty such as oncology or case management. From there, pursuing the AONN Oncology Patient Navigator certification or a similar credential positions you competitively for navigator roles at Montana health systems.
How much do nurse navigators make in Montana?
Nurse navigators in Montana earn a median of about $85,280 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $70,120 for the lowest 10% to over $113,920 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire nurse navigators in Montana?
Montana nurse navigator roles are posted by Bozeman Health, Intercity Radiology, and Benefis Health System and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Montana's hiring is anchored by regional health systems rather than national chains, so roles often sit within integrated networks that combine hospital, clinic, and rural outreach services.
Which Montana cities have the most nurse navigator jobs?
Bozeman, Havre, and Belgrade account for the majority of nurse navigator openings in Montana. Billings leads as the state's largest city and medical hub, home to the most complex referral centers, while Missoula and Great Falls draw openings from their respective regional health systems serving large rural catchment areas.
Are there remote nurse navigator jobs in Montana?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of nurse navigator openings tied to Montana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the role's roots in direct patient contact, care team collaboration, and facility-based coordination. Telephonic navigation roles in chronic disease management and insurance-based case management represent the portion of the field most likely to allow fully remote work.
How can I get hired as a nurse navigator in Montana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is transitioning from a bedside role in oncology, medical-surgical, or case management at a Montana health system such as Billings Clinic or Benefis, which regularly bring in floor nurses to navigator or care coordinator positions. New graduates can build a foundation by applying to nurse residency programs at those same systems, then moving laterally once they have specialty exposure. Completing the AONN navigation fundamentals certificate before applying signals intent and closes experience gaps on your application.
Where can I find and apply to nurse navigator jobs in Montana?
You can find and apply to nurse navigator jobs in Montana on Migrate Mate, which lists current Montana openings from employers across the state. Search the roles available, find the ones that match your experience and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
