Nurse Practitioner Or Physician Assistant Jobs in North Dakota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in North Dakota?
Nurse practitioners in North Dakota must hold a graduate nursing degree and obtain licensure through the North Dakota Board of Nursing, which requires national certification from a body such as AANP or ANCC. Physician assistants must graduate from an accredited PA program and pass the PANCE, then apply for licensure through the North Dakota Board of Medicine. Both roles require maintaining national certification and completing continuing education for renewal.
Which companies hire nurse practitioner or physician assistants in North Dakota?
North Dakota nurse practitioner or physician assistant roles are posted by Sanford Health, Signify Health, and Diamond Accelerator and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Hiring is spread across large integrated health systems anchored in Fargo and Bismarck as well as critical access hospitals serving the state's rural communities.
Which North Dakota cities have the most nurse practitioner or physician assistant jobs?
Fargo, North Dakota, and Minot lead North Dakota for nurse practitioner or physician assistant openings. Fargo drives the largest share of listings because Sanford Health and Essentia Health maintain their regional headquarters and largest clinical campuses there, while Bismarck's concentration of state government health programs and CHI St. Alexius facilities sustains steady demand, and Grand Forks benefits from its proximity to the University of North Dakota School of Medicine.
Are there remote nurse practitioner or physician assistant jobs in North Dakota?
Yes, but they're rare. Nurse practitioner and physician assistant work is primarily hands-on and requires in-person patient care, so fully remote positions represent only a small fraction of total openings. About 55% of nurse practitioner or physician assistant openings tied to North Dakota are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions typically involve telehealth triage, psychiatric consultations, or chronic disease management follow-ups rather than primary clinical visits.
How can I get hired as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in North Dakota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a new-graduate or transition-to-practice role at a large North Dakota health system such as Sanford Health or Essentia Health, both of which offer structured onboarding and supervised practice arrangements for newly licensed clinicians. Candidates coming from RN or PA-C assistant roles at critical access hospitals across the state frequently move into full practitioner positions when they complete their degree. Holding a North Dakota license before applying and completing clinical rotations in family practice or rural settings strengthens your candidacy significantly.
Where can I find and apply to nurse practitioner or physician assistant jobs in North Dakota?
You can find and apply to nurse practitioner or physician assistant jobs in North Dakota on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your specialty and experience level, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
