Nurse Practitioner Or Physician Assistant Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in Florida?
Nurse practitioners in Florida must hold an active advanced practice registered nurse license issued by the Florida Board of Nursing, which requires completing an accredited graduate nursing program and passing the ANCC or AANP national certification exam. Physician assistants must be licensed by the Florida Board of Medicine after graduating from an accredited PA program and passing the PANCE. Both roles require maintaining national certification and completing continuing education for Florida license renewal.
Which companies hire nurse practitioner or physician assistants in Florida?
Employers hiring nurse practitioner or physician assistants in Florida right now include Nemours Children's Health, Woundtech, and Mayo Clinic, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Florida's large integrated health systems and multi-specialty outpatient groups account for a significant share of ongoing openings across the state.
Which Florida cities have the most nurse practitioner or physician assistant jobs?
Jacksonville, Orlando, and Tampa have the most nurse practitioner or physician assistant openings in Florida. Miami's concentration of academic medical centers and specialty clinics drives volume in South Florida, while Tampa and Orlando benefit from large regional health systems and rapidly growing suburban patient populations that sustain steady hiring across primary and specialty care settings.
Are there remote nurse practitioner or physician assistant jobs in Florida?
Yes, but they're rare. Nurse practitioner and physician assistant roles are predominantly hands-on and require in-person patient contact, so fully remote positions represent a small share of total openings. About 2% of nurse practitioner or physician assistant openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of August 2026. Telehealth triage, chronic disease management, and utilization review are the sub-areas where remote arrangements appear most often.
How can I get hired as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to new-graduate or transition-to-practice residency programs offered by large Florida health systems such as AdventHealth, HCA Florida, and UF Health, which provide structured mentorship for clinicians without independent experience. Lateral moves from RN or PA-C roles in urgent care or hospitalist settings are a common entry point. Holding an unrestricted Florida license, a current national board certification, and BLS and ACLS credentials gives candidates a clear edge in a competitive applicant pool.
Where can I find and apply to nurse practitioner or physician assistant jobs in Florida?
