Tips for Your Office Clerk Job Search
Tailor your resume to each listing
Office clerk postings vary widely in focus, so swap in the exact software names and duties from each job ad. A resume that mirrors the listing's language, whether it asks for EHR systems or accounts payable entry, moves past automated filters faster.
Highlight your typing speed and accuracy
Many office clerk applications ask for a verified words-per-minute score. Get a free typing certificate from a recognized testing tool before you apply, and drop the result directly into your resume's skills section so hiring managers see it immediately.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists office clerk openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target industries that hire in volume
Healthcare networks, county and municipal government offices, and large logistics companies post office clerk openings year-round rather than seasonally. Filtering your search to these sectors gives you a steadier pipeline of fresh listings to work through.
Prepare for a skills test at the interview
Employers routinely give office clerk candidates a live data-entry or filing exercise during the interview round. Practice working quickly and accurately in spreadsheet and word-processing software so a timed test doesn't catch you off guard.
Follow up with a specific thank-you note
After your interview, reference one concrete task or system discussed in the conversation. Mentioning that you're ready to hit the ground running with the specific software the team uses makes your follow-up stand out over a generic message.
Office Clerk Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most office clerks?
The companies hiring the most office clerks right now include Costco Wholesale, Kroger, and Clarkson Eyecare, with the largest share of openings in Texas, California, and Ohio, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Healthcare systems and government agencies consistently account for a significant portion of total openings nationwide.
How many office clerk jobs are remote?
About 2% of office clerk openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with availability concentrated in the role rather than spread evenly. Data entry, billing, and records processing positions are the most likely to offer remote or hybrid arrangements, while front-desk and mail room clerk roles almost always require an on-site presence.
How do you become an office clerk?
Start by earning a high school diploma or GED, then build proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software through free or low-cost online courses. Volunteer work, internships, or part-time administrative assistant roles give you the filing and data-entry experience employers look for. Earning a basic office administration certificate from a community college can strengthen your application for roles in healthcare or government.
Can you get hired as an office clerk with little or no experience?
Yes, many office clerk positions are explicitly entry-level and designed for candidates with limited formal work history. Employers weight your demonstrated ability to type accurately, organize files, and follow written procedures over years of experience. Highlight any school project coordination, club secretary work, or volunteer administrative tasks on your resume to show you already handle core clerk duties.
What does the office clerk interview process look like?
Most office clerk interviews run one or two rounds and are relatively straightforward. The first round is usually a phone screen with HR focused on availability and basic software familiarity. An in-person or video interview with the hiring manager follows, often including a short practical exercise such as a typing test, a sample data-entry task, or a mock filing scenario to confirm your accuracy under real conditions.
Where can I find and apply to office clerk jobs?
You can find and apply to office clerk jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level and preferred location, then apply directly to each opening that fits.
