Paralegal Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a paralegal in New Jersey?
New Jersey does not require a state-issued license to work as a paralegal, so the path runs through education and voluntary certification. Most New Jersey employers expect at least an associate degree in paralegal studies or a related field, with a bachelor's degree preferred at larger firms. Earning a Certified Paralegal credential through NALA or a PACE certification through NFPA significantly strengthens a candidate's standing with New Jersey litigation and corporate law practices.
How much do paralegals make in New Jersey?
Paralegals in New Jersey earn a median of about $71,500 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $47,070 for the lowest 10% to over $99,900 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire paralegals in New Jersey?
Employers hiring paralegals in New Jersey right now include Jobot, Garces, Grabler & LeBrocq, and Leverage Companies, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New Jersey's concentration of pharmaceutical companies, financial services firms, and mid-size litigation practices creates consistent paralegal demand well beyond traditional law firms.
Which New Jersey cities have the most paralegal jobs?
Hackensack, Newark, and Jersey City have the most paralegal openings in New Jersey. Newark and Jersey City drive volume through their density of corporate legal departments and large litigation firms, while Trenton sees steady demand from state government agencies and administrative law practices based near the state capitol.
Are there remote paralegal jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, and more than many legal support roles. About 28% of paralegal openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based and research-heavy nature of much paralegal work. Document review, legal research, and contract management tasks are the areas most commonly performed remotely, particularly at corporate legal departments and e-discovery-focused practices.
How can I get hired as a paralegal in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a paralegal studies program at a New Jersey institution, such as those offered at Seton Hall University or Middlesex College, followed by applying to entry-level legal assistant or file clerk roles at mid-size New Jersey litigation firms. Many of the state's corporate legal departments, including those at pharmaceutical companies along the Route 1 corridor, bring on junior paralegals from these programs. Earning a NALA Certified Paralegal credential while still in school gives candidates a measurable edge over applicants without formal credentials.
Where can I find and apply to paralegal jobs in New Jersey?
You can find and apply to paralegal jobs in New Jersey on Migrate Mate, which lists current New Jersey openings across law firms, corporate legal departments, and government agencies. Find roles that fit your experience and specialization and apply directly.
