Paralegal Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a paralegal in Texas?
Texas does not require a state license to work as a paralegal, but most employers expect a formal education credential and voluntary certification. The typical path is completing an ABA-approved paralegal studies program at a Texas community college or university, then pursuing certification through the National Association of Legal Assistants or the National Federation of Paralegal Associations. Candidates with a general bachelor's degree who complete a paralegal certificate program are also competitive in the Texas market.
How much do paralegals make in Texas?
Paralegals in Texas earn a median of about $62,310 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $39,190 for the lowest 10% to over $98,440 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire paralegals in Texas?
Employers hiring paralegals in Texas right now include Jobot, Office of the Attorney General, and Husch Blackwell, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, major energy companies, and large regional law firms means steady demand across both in-house legal departments and private practice settings.
Which Texas cities have the most paralegal jobs?
Dallas, Houston, and Austin have the most paralegal openings in Texas. Houston's dominance in energy and international commerce drives high litigation and transactional volume, while Dallas's concentration of corporate headquarters fuels strong in-house demand, and Austin's fast-growing tech and government sectors add a distinct layer of regulatory and contract work to the mix.
Are there remote paralegal jobs in Texas?
Yes, though they're less common than in purely digital fields, since much paralegal work involves court filings, document management, and attorney collaboration that is often on-site. About 28% of paralegal openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026. Document review, legal research, and contract administration roles are the paralegal functions most likely to be offered with remote flexibility.
How can I get hired as a paralegal in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a paralegal certificate program at a Texas community college, which many candidates complete while working as a legal secretary or file clerk at a law firm or corporate legal department. Large Texas law firms and legal aid organizations like Lone Star Legal Aid occasionally hire entry-level legal assistants and train them on the job. Building experience in document review projects or court runner roles at regional firms gives candidates a practical foundation that makes the transition to a paralegal title faster.
Where can I find and apply to paralegal jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to paralegal jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level and specialty, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
