Legal Administrative Assistant Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a legal administrative assistant in Texas?
Texas does not require a state-issued license to work as a legal administrative assistant, but most employers expect at least an associate degree or certificate in paralegal or legal studies from an accredited Texas program, such as those offered at community colleges across the state. Completing a program approved by the American Bar Association strengthens your candidacy. Hands-on experience with Texas court e-filing systems and law firm software is what most hiring managers look for before extending an offer.
How much do legal administrative assistants make in Texas?
Legal administrative assistants in Texas earn a median of about $45,940 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $39,480 for the lowest 10% to over $82,680 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire legal administrative assistants in Texas?
Employers hiring legal administrative assistants in Texas right now include Fidelity National Financial, Jobot, and Kirkland & Ellis, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's high concentration of energy companies, insurance carriers, and multinational law firm offices means demand stays consistent throughout the year across the state's major metros.
Which Texas cities have the most legal administrative assistant jobs?
Dallas, Austin, and Houston have the most legal administrative assistant openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its dense concentration of energy sector legal departments and major law firm offices, Dallas draws volume from financial services and corporate headquarters, and Austin's growth in technology and state government has steadily expanded its legal support hiring base.
Are there remote legal administrative assistant jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields because the role often requires handling physical documents, coordinating court filings in person, and supporting attorneys on-site. About 16% of legal administrative assistant openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, so options exist. Document review coordination, billing support, and correspondence management are the tasks most likely to be performed remotely when employers do offer flexible arrangements.
How can I get hired as a legal administrative assistant in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a legal studies or paralegal certificate program at a Texas community college, which many law firms and corporate legal departments treat as a substitute for prior work history. Applying for receptionist or file clerk roles at small Texas law firms is a common first step, as those positions frequently lead to promotion into full legal administrative assistant duties. The Texas Young Lawyers Association also offers networking events that connect new graduates with hiring attorneys across the state.
Where can I find and apply to legal administrative assistant jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to legal administrative assistant jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state. Find roles that fit your experience and location and apply directly to each one without needing to go through an intermediary.
