POSITION STANDARDS
- Actively seeking or holding current registration by the College of American Pathologists as a PBT, or the equivalent, is desired. Acumen satisfactory to the Laboratory Supervisor must be demonstrated upon interview.
- Personality must not be found abrasive by patients and must be conducive to the tedium of record keeping, inventory control and related duties.
- Age of Patients Treated: All ages
- Current BCLS certification required within 30 days of hire.

- Ability to tolerate stress due to pressures associated with the responsibilities of the position.
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITY
Position Objective
- To perform venipunctures, process laboratory requisitions and orders, answer the telephone, take messages, act as receptionist for the laboratory, maintain files, records, inventory; wash glassware, maintain and organize adequate laboratory supplies, and perform other related duties as assigned.
Performance Expectation
- Obtain blood samples and prepare them for analysis and distribution.
- Greet patients and answer the telephone.
- Perform clerical duties associated with inpatient/ER specimen processing, including but not limited to managing requests from inpatient/ER units to ensure phlebotomy is performed in a timely fashion, retrieve samples when needed, and receive Order Entry requests into the LIS.
- Perform clerical duties associated with outpatient phlebotomy including but not limited to entering requisitions into the LIS, managing standing orders, managing the "patients coming in" binder, managing ABNs, and following up on requisition problems.
- Process specimens coming to the laboratory from outside offices. This includes, but is not limited to registering patients, ordering tests, printing requisitions, moving orders and logging specimens when needed.
- File laboratory paperwork under existing filing system to allow for quick retrieval.
- Perform laboratory requisition clerical and registration checks.
- Pick up and distribution of mail to the appropriate mailbox. Responsible for the mailing of letters and lab reports to non-staff physicians.
- Report any unresolved problems or instrument malfunctions to the Technical Supervisor/Laboratory Manager.
- Perform other related special tasks as assigned.
- Participate in ordering of lab supplies to assure unencumbered functioning of the laboratory.
- Perform phlebotomy at off-site collection site.
- Attend Laboratory meetings or sign off on minutes if unable to attend.

- Min: $18.73
- Max: $29.04
