Physical Therapist Assistant Jobs in Missouri: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a physical therapist assistant in Missouri?
You must earn an associate degree from a CAPTE-accredited physical therapist assistant program, then pass the National Physical Therapy Examination for PTAs administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy. After passing the exam, you apply for licensure through the Missouri State Board of Healing Arts. Missouri does not offer license reciprocity by endorsement in the same way some states do, so out-of-state candidates must meet Missouri's specific application requirements directly.
How much do physical therapist assistants make in Missouri?
Physical therapist assistants in Missouri earn a median of about $63,770 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $50,460 for the lowest 10% to over $79,000 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire physical therapist assistants in Missouri?
Missouri physical therapist assistant roles are posted by HiredFirst, Reliant Rehabilitation, and tmc and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Missouri's large integrated health systems, long-term care networks, and outpatient clinic chains are among the most consistent sources of full-time physical therapist assistant openings in the state.
Which Missouri cities have the most physical therapist assistant jobs?
St. Louis, Independence, and Saint Joseph lead Missouri for physical therapist assistant openings. Kansas City and St. Louis drive the highest volume because of their large hospital systems and dense outpatient rehabilitation networks, while Springfield's growing healthcare sector and anchor employers like CoxHealth and Mercy make it a reliable secondary market for physical therapist assistant positions.
Are there remote physical therapist assistant jobs in Missouri?
Yes, but they're rare. Physical therapist assistant work is inherently hands-on, requiring direct patient contact for exercises and manual techniques. About 0% of physical therapist assistant openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions typically involve documentation support, telehealth care coordination, or administrative roles rather than direct patient treatment.
How can I get hired as a physical therapist assistant in Missouri with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to new-graduate positions at Missouri's large health systems, where employers like Mercy Health and BJC HealthCare regularly hire newly licensed PTAs alongside structured clinical onboarding. Candidates coming from roles as physical therapy aides, rehabilitation technicians, or home health aides have an easier transition because they already understand clinical environments. Holding an active Missouri PTA license and a current CPR certification before applying removes the most common hiring barriers for entry-level candidates.
Where can I find and apply to physical therapist assistant jobs in Missouri?
You can find and apply to physical therapist assistant jobs in Missouri on Migrate Mate, which lists current Missouri openings. Search for roles that match your experience and clinical focus, then apply directly to the positions that fit.
