Position Description:

The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program, housed in the School of Nursing & Health Sciences (SNHS) at the University of Rochester (URochester), seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor to join our growing faculty and help build a scientific focus in Rehabilitation Sciences. New faculty will join an established community of PT/PhD researchers across the University working in the area of neuroscience, adult or pediatric neuro-rehabiliation, offering built-in mentorship as they launch their research programs. The program is pursuing CAPTE accreditation, and new faculty will have a real voice in shaping its research agenda and culture while benefitting from a longstanding and robust SNHS research infrastructure.

The successful candidate will be a key contributor to our tripartite mission of excellence in research, teaching, and practice. Situated within a state-of-the-art and research-intensive School of Nursing & Health Sciences and academic medical center (URochester Medicine), tenure-track investigators receive startup funds, biostatistics and methods support, pilot funding, and other resources to develop a thriving program of research. Our DPT program is a 2.5-year, post-baccalaureate, residential program designed to prepare graduates for the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) and for generalist practice across the lifespan. The PhD program in Nursing and Health Sciences is the Schools’ scientific training arm, and DPT faculty have opportunities to mentor and teach in it. Faculty are also encouraged to maintain clinical expertise through joint appointments with URochester Medicine that can seed research collaborations.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and lead an independent program of research with potential for extramural funding, including writing and submitting grant proposals
• Disseminate findings through peer-reviewed publication and presentation
• Teach in the DPT program. Teaching load is negotiated, and new faculty typically teach two to four courses per year, with load reviewed annually, to allow time to establish their research program.
• Mentor DPT students, and serve as a mentor, teacher, or dissertation committee member for PhD students
• Contribute academic, community, and professional service to the School, medical center, university, and field

Required Qualifications :

• Licensed Physical Therapist and an academic research doctorate (e.g., PhD, EdD, DSc), completed or expected by the time of employment
• Minimum 3 years full-time post-licensure clinical practice
• Licensed or eligible for PT licensure in New York at the time of employment (exceptions are possible for closely aligned licensed allied health professionals)
• Experience or demonstrated potential to teach graduate courses
• Record of research in physical therapy or rehabilitation science, and contemporary scholarship, practice expertise, and teaching experience
• Evidence of extramural funding or demonstrated potential to be successful in securing extramural funding
• Scholarly publications in peer-reviewed journals
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Content expertise in neurorehabilitation (adult or pediatrics), neuroscience, orthopedics, or another area of contemporary rehabilitation science.
• Experience or demonstrated potential to teach graduate-level courses
• Rigorous research training and mentoring, including experience managing research studies
• Strong data management and analysis skills, with a record of data-based publications
• Grant funding (e.g., foundation, institutional pilot, NIH F or K award) likely to support continued scholarly productivity
