Position Summary
The Honors Program Assistant Director supports the operations of the University Honors Program under the Director. This position will include teaching in Honors each semester, offering required general education Honors versions of relevant classes as well as specially developed colloquia courses within the position holder’s field of expertise. (25% of role)
The Honors Program Assistant Director will provide professional academic advising for Honors students, including assisting in the development of academic advisement support materials for students. The Assistant Director will monitor and assist in advising or directing students engaged in certain special activities, such as internships or FUSE, and develop accordingly auxiliary study strategies and tutorial materials for students engaged in such areas. This position will also prepare regular reports by collecting and managing student data. The coordinator will monitor certain statistics, such as retention and graduation rates, providing proactive, comprehensive, and exceptional service in monitoring reenrollment and student progress to graduation, fostering student success, persistence and engagement while supporting students in their academic journeys. (50% of role)
The Honors Program Assistant Director is an important support role to the Director and will be responsible for a wide range of crucial administrative tasks, including but not limited to overseeing correspondence, managing reimbursements, handling student employment matters, monitoring and responding to departmental phone and email accounts, and coordinating facilities as the front line face of Honors for students, faculty, staff and the general public. These responsibilities are fundamental to the smooth operation of the program and require meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills; the person in this role uses good judgement and professionalism in sharing general information and giving directions as necessary. It is important that the candidate work efficiently and with a level of self-sufficiency. In addition to administrative duties, this position will play a key role in event planning for Honors. Budget management, including monitoring the program budget to ensure financial resources are allocated effectively, will be managed in collaboration with the Director to track expenses, process invoices, maintain proper documentation, and reconcile financial records. (20% of role)
In this role, the Assistant Director will offer prospective students personalized guidance through recruiting events, meetings, and transcript evaluation, as well as promote the value of a 4-year degree and the UNO general education curriculum. (5% of role)
