Program Assistant Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a program assistant in Texas?
Most program assistant roles in Texas require at minimum an associate degree, though a bachelor's degree in business, public administration, social work, or a related field is increasingly standard. There is no statewide license required for the general role, but positions within health and human services agencies may require background clearance through the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. Building experience through internships at state agencies, nonprofits, or university administrative offices is the most direct path.
Which companies hire program assistants in Texas?
Employers hiring program assistants in Texas right now include Abercrombie & Fitch, Amazon, and Walmart, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large concentration of state agencies, federally funded nonprofits, and major healthcare systems means demand for this role stays consistent across multiple sectors year-round.
Which Texas cities have the most program assistant jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and Austin have the highest concentration of program assistant openings in Texas. Houston's size and its density of healthcare systems, energy-sector foundations, and federal contractors drive significant volume there, while Austin's state government agencies and rapidly expanding nonprofit sector and Dallas's corporate headquarters and major hospital networks each sustain strong ongoing demand.
Are there remote program assistant jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than many administrative roles, since program assistant work often centers on coordination, documentation, and communication that can be done off-site. About 6% of program assistant openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how broadly the role fits distributed team structures. Grant administration, data reporting, and stakeholder communications are the functions most commonly performed fully remotely.
How can I get hired as a program assistant in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to administrative coordinator or program aide roles at Texas state agencies such as the Health and Human Services Commission or the Texas Workforce Commission, both of which regularly post roles that accept candidates with limited direct experience. Large Texas nonprofit networks and community college systems also run entry-level program support roles that function as on-the-job training. A relevant internship, a certified associate in project management credential, or demonstrated volunteer coordination work strengthens a first application considerably.
Where can I find and apply to program assistant jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to program assistant jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level, preferred city, and area of focus, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
