The Business Consulting and Education (BCE) team creates and delivers high-quality, industry-leading consulting and education programs that help advisors better manage their businesses in addition to helping them plan and prepare for the future. Business Consultant Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business consultant in Texas?
Texas does not require a state-issued license to work as a business consultant, so the path is credential- and experience-driven. Most Texas employers expect at least a bachelor's degree in business, finance, or a related field, with an MBA preferred for senior roles. Earning a Certified Management Consultant designation strengthens your candidacy at major Texas firms. Many consultants build their footing through analyst or operations roles at large Texas corporations in energy, healthcare, or financial services before moving into advisory positions.
How much do business consultants make in Texas?
Business consultants in Texas earn a median of about $101,400 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $62,730 for the lowest 10% to over $168,420 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire business consultants in Texas?
Employers hiring business consultants in Texas right now include Alvarez & Marsal, Infosys, and Carmax Business Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, major energy companies, and large hospital systems means consistent demand for consultants with industry-specific expertise.
Which Texas cities have the most business consultant jobs?
Dallas, Houston, and Austin have the most business consultant openings in Texas. Dallas-Fort Worth leads because of its dense cluster of corporate headquarters, financial services firms, and major consulting offices, while Houston's energy and healthcare industries generate steady advisory demand, and Austin's fast-growing technology and startup sector has made it an increasingly significant hiring market for consultants.
Are there remote business consultant jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than many fields. About 26% of business consultant openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the desk-based and analytical nature of much consulting work. Strategy, financial modeling, and digital transformation projects are the areas most likely to accommodate fully remote arrangements, while engagements requiring on-site client workshops or facility assessments tend to require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a business consultant in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a business analyst or operations associate role at a large Texas employer, then moving laterally into consulting. Major Dallas and Houston firms like Deloitte and Accenture run structured analyst programs that recruit recent graduates directly. Pursuing a PMP certification or completing a recognized case competition adds weight to an early-career profile. Adjacent roles in project coordination, financial analysis, or internal strategy at Texas energy companies and health systems are common launching points for first-generation consultants.
