Human Resources Specialist Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a human resources specialist in Texas?
A bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or a related field is the standard entry point for human resources specialist roles in Texas. Texas does not require a state-issued license to work in HR, but professional certification through HRCI (PHR) or SHRM (SHRM-CP) is widely expected by mid-sized and large Texas employers. Many candidates pursue their first role as an HR coordinator or HR assistant before advancing to a specialist title.
How much do human resources specialists make in Texas?
Human resources specialists in Texas earn a median of about $68,920 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $43,410 for the lowest 10% to over $117,060 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire human resources specialists in Texas?
Employers hiring human resources specialists in Texas right now include Texas Health and Human Services Commission, Baylor Scott & White Health, and Integrated Power Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, large healthcare systems, and state government agencies means sustained year-round demand across multiple industries.
Which Texas cities have the most human resources specialist jobs?
Houston, Austin, and Dallas have the most human resources specialist openings in Texas. Dallas-Fort Worth leads because of its dense cluster of corporate headquarters and financial services firms, Houston draws consistent volume from energy, petrochemical, and medical center employers, and Austin's tech and state government sector sustains steady demand even outside the largest enterprise names.
Are there remote human resources specialist jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than many fields. About 16% of human resources specialist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting that much of the work involves systems, documentation, and employee communication rather than on-site presence. Benefits administration, HRIS management, and talent acquisition coordination are the sub-areas most likely to offer fully remote arrangements.
How can I get hired as a human resources specialist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing an HR coordinator or HR assistant role at a large Texas employer, then moving into a specialist position once you have direct experience in a defined area such as recruiting or benefits. Major Texas hospital systems like HCA Healthcare and university systems like UT and Texas A&M run new-grad HR programs and rotational opportunities. Completing a SHRM student membership, an HRCI aPHR credential, or an HR internship at a Texas company substantially strengthens an entry-level application.
