Project Architect Jobs in Missouri: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project architect in Missouri?
Becoming a project architect in Missouri requires earning an architecture license through the Missouri Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors, and Landscape Architects. Candidates must hold a professional degree from an NAAB-accredited program, complete the Architectural Experience Program hours, and pass all divisions of the Architect Registration Examination. Most Missouri firms expect licensure or active candidacy before promoting someone into a project architect role.
Which companies hire project architects in Missouri?
Companies currently hiring project architects in Missouri include HDR, CannonDesign, and GastingerWalker&, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Missouri's concentration of corporate headquarters, major hospital systems, and public university campuses keeps a steady pipeline of mid-size and large architecture firms actively recruiting at this level.
Which Missouri cities have the most project architect jobs?
Kansas City, St. Louis, and Springfield account for the largest share of project architect openings in Missouri. St. Louis and Kansas City drive the majority of postings through their healthcare systems, university campuses, and commercial development pipelines, while Columbia's growth as a university city and regional healthcare hub has made it a consistent secondary market for licensed architects.
Are there remote project architect jobs in Missouri?
Yes, but they're rare. Project architect work is inherently site- and team-dependent, requiring regular coordination with consultants, contractors, and clients. About 100% of project architect openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, and those tend to cover early-phase schematic design or documentation tasks rather than full project responsibility.
How can I get hired as a project architect in Missouri with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is joining a Missouri firm as an architectural designer or intern architect while completing Architectural Experience Program hours toward licensure. Large St. Louis and Kansas City firms including HOK, PGAV Architects, and Burns & McDonnell regularly bring in new graduates for structured intern programs. Building a portfolio focused on construction documents, Revit proficiency, and any healthcare or education project work gives candidates a clear edge in Missouri's dominant market sectors.
Where can I find and apply to project architect jobs in Missouri?
You can find and apply to project architect jobs in Missouri on Migrate Mate, which lists current Missouri openings in one place. Search the listings, find the roles that match your experience and target market, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
