Public Relations Manager Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a public relations manager in Texas?
Texas does not require a state-issued license to work as a public relations manager. The standard path is a bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, or journalism, followed by several years in coordinator or specialist roles building media relations and campaign management experience. Earning the Accredited in Public Relations credential from the Public Relations Society of America strengthens a candidacy. Many Texas employers in energy and healthcare value industry-specific communications experience alongside the core PR background.
How much do public relations managers make in Texas?
Public relations managers in Texas earn a median of about $126,670 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $78,400 for the lowest 10% to over $220,000 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire public relations managers in Texas?
Employers hiring public relations managers in Texas right now include Google, Amazon, and American Heart Association, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, major health systems, and fast-growing technology companies creates consistent demand for seasoned communications professionals across the state.
Which Texas cities have the most public relations manager jobs?
Austin, Dallas, and Houston have the most public relations manager openings in Texas. Houston's dominance reflects the city's energy industry headquarters and large medical center complex, Dallas draws demand from its dense corporate headquarters cluster and financial services sector, and Austin's concentration of technology companies and state government agencies drives its share of communications roles.
Are there remote public relations manager jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than many roles, since much of the work involves writing, media outreach, and digital strategy that travels well. About 32% of public relations manager openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting employer flexibility in communications functions. Media monitoring, content development, and social media management are the tasks most commonly performed fully remotely, while executive media training and on-site events typically require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a public relations manager in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a communications coordinator or PR specialist role, which large Texas employers such as major health systems, university communications offices, and energy companies treat as a pipeline into management. Texas-based healthcare networks and municipal governments frequently hire entry-level communications associates with strong writing portfolios. Completing an internship with a Texas PR agency, earning the PRSA student membership credential, and building a portfolio of press releases and campaign samples significantly improves candidacy before moving into a manager-track opening.
Where can I find and apply to public relations manager jobs in Texas?
