After training, you must obtain a Missouri medical license through the Missouri State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts and pass the ABIM pulmonary disease board examination. Most Missouri employers also require active hospital credentialing before seeing patients.

Which Missouri cities have the most pulmonary physician jobs?

St. Louis leads because of its concentration of academic medical centers and large hospital systems, Kansas City draws volume through its major regional health networks and suburban campuses, and Springfield anchors south-central Missouri hiring through Mercy Health and CoxHealth.
Are there remote pulmonary physician jobs in Missouri?
Yes, but they're rare. Pulmonary medicine is a hands-on clinical specialty requiring direct patient evaluation, bronchoscopy, and inpatient rounding, so most positions are on-site. About 0% of pulmonary physician openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions are almost exclusively in telemedicine pulmonary consults or remote sleep medicine interpretation.
How can I get hired as a pulmonary physician in Missouri with little or no experience?
The most realistic path for early-career candidates is applying directly to fellowship-to-practice pipeline programs at Missouri academic centers such as Barnes-Jewish Hospital or the University of Missouri Health Care system, which regularly recruit graduating fellows. New attendings also find entry through hospitalist-to-pulmonary transitions at regional systems like Mercy or SSM Health, where internal medicine experience is valued.
