INTRODUCTION
Blue Chip Talent, in partnership with an automotive manufacturing organization, is seeking a skilled Purchasing Assistant Manager. This role is responsible for leading purchasing activities, developing commodity and sourcing strategies, negotiating supplier costs, and supporting new product programs and manufacturing operations. The position also provides day-to-day oversight for a small purchasing team and works closely with suppliers and internal manufacturing stakeholders.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead purchasing activities across assigned commodities and product platforms
- Supervise and support two direct reports within the purchasing team
- Develop purchasing plans for new program launches and special projects
- Create and manage commodity strategies supporting sourcing, negotiation, and supplier development
- Analyze supplier cost structures and develop commodity cost estimates to evaluate competitiveness
- Negotiate production component pricing, tooling costs, and annual supplier cost improvements
- Manage pricing data, resolve purchasing discrepancies, and issue purchase orders for components and tooling
- Support manufacturing locations with supplier performance concerns, cost-reduction initiatives, and continuous improvement activities
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or a related field
- 5–7 years of purchasing experience
- Purchasing experience with automotive components
- Working knowledge of automotive suppliers throughout North America
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint
- Experience with supplier cost analysis, sourcing, negotiations, and commodity management
- Ability to travel up to 25%

- Knowledge of manufacturing cost drivers
