QA Specialist Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a qa specialist in California?
Most qa specialist roles in California require a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, life sciences, or a related field, though some employers accept an associate degree plus relevant technical experience. California does not issue a state license for general qa specialists, but candidates targeting medical device or pharmaceutical roles benefit from working knowledge of FDA quality system regulations. Certifications from the American Society for Quality, such as the Certified Quality Engineer or Certified Quality Auditor, strengthen applications significantly in California's regulated industries.
Which companies hire qa specialists in California?
Employers hiring qa specialists in California right now include Apple, Procept BioRobotics, and Tetra Tech, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of software companies, biotech firms, and aerospace contractors means demand is distributed across the state rather than anchored to a single industry.
Which California cities have the most qa specialist jobs?
The California cities with the most qa specialist openings are San Jose, Los Angeles, and Mountain View. The Bay Area and San Diego lead because of their dense clusters of software companies, medical device manufacturers, and defense contractors, while Los Angeles draws volume from aerospace, entertainment technology, and a growing biotech corridor, making each city's openings a reflection of its dominant industry base.
Are there remote qa specialist jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most technical fields, particularly for software and automation qa roles that require no physical lab or production floor access. About 9% of qa specialist openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, though hardware validation, medical device testing, and manufacturing quality roles remain predominantly on-site. Software test automation and QA analyst positions are the sub-areas most likely to offer remote flexibility.
How can I get hired as a qa specialist in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a junior QA analyst or associate test engineer role at a mid-size California software company, where formal manual testing experience is accepted in place of automation expertise. Large California employers in biotech and medical devices, including those based in San Diego's life sciences corridor, often hire quality associates through rotational programs aimed at recent graduates with science or engineering degrees. Candidates moving from adjacent roles like technical support, data analyst, or lab technician have a natural bridge into quality assurance. Completing an ISTQB Foundation Level certification or building a small portfolio of documented test cases on a personal project gives candidates without industry experience a concrete edge in California screening processes.
Where can I find and apply to qa specialist jobs in California?
You can find and apply to qa specialist jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings across software, medical device, aerospace, and manufacturing industries. Find roles that fit your experience level and location preference, then apply directly to the employers posting them.
