Registered Nurse Med Surg Jobs in Arkansas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a registered nurse med surg in Arkansas?
You become a registered nurse med surg in Arkansas by earning an Associate Degree in Nursing or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, passing the NCLEX-RN, and obtaining licensure through the Arkansas State Board of Nursing. Arkansas participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact, so nurses already licensed in a compact state may work in Arkansas without applying for a separate license. Most hospitals then provide a med-surg unit orientation before independent assignment.
How much do registered nurse med surgs make in Arkansas?
Registered nurse med surgs in Arkansas earn a median of about $78,940 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $60,780 for the lowest 10% to over $103,660 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire registered nurse med surgs in Arkansas?
Employers hiring registered nurse med surgs in Arkansas right now include Baptist Health, Mercy, and Vibra Travels, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Arkansas's largest health systems, including academic medical centers and regional community hospitals, tend to post the most consistent volume of med-surg openings year-round.
Which Arkansas cities have the most registered nurse med surg jobs?
Little Rock, Fort Smith, and North Little Rock have the most registered nurse med surg openings in Arkansas. Little Rock drives the largest share of listings as the state's main population and medical hub, anchored by UAMS Health and Baptist Health, while Fort Smith and Fayetteville reflect strong regional hospital activity in their respective metro corridors.
Are there remote registered nurse med surg jobs in Arkansas?
Yes, but they're rare. Registered nurse med surg is a hands-on, bedside role that requires direct patient contact, so the vast majority of positions are fully on-site. About 0% of registered nurse med surg openings tied to Arkansas are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those listings typically involve care coordination, utilization review, or telephonic triage functions rather than direct floor nursing.
How can I get hired as a registered nurse med surg in Arkansas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to a new graduate nurse residency program, which UAMS Health, Baptist Health, and CHI St. Vincent offer to nurses within their first year of licensure. These structured programs place new grads directly on med-surg units with extended preceptorship. Candidates without experience gain an edge by holding a current Arkansas or compact RN license, completing BLS before applying, and highlighting clinical rotations in acute care or surgical settings completed during nursing school.
Where can I find and apply to registered nurse med surg jobs in Arkansas?
You can find and apply to registered nurse med surg jobs in Arkansas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the roles available, find the ones that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to the positions that fit.
