Registered Respiratory Therapist Jobs in Mississippi: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a registered respiratory therapist in Mississippi?
To become a registered respiratory therapist in Mississippi, you must graduate from a COARC-accredited respiratory therapy program, pass the National Board for Respiratory Care examinations to earn your RRT credential, and obtain licensure through the Mississippi State Board of Health. Mississippi requires both an active NBRC credential and a state-issued license before practicing. Most programs are associate degree level, though bachelor's options exist at several Mississippi institutions.
How much do registered respiratory therapists make in Mississippi?
Registered respiratory therapists in Mississippi earn a median of about $63,270 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $50,180 for the lowest 10% to over $80,460 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire registered respiratory therapists in Mississippi?
Employers hiring registered respiratory therapists in Mississippi right now include Baptist Memorial Health Care, Memorial Hospital at Gulfport, and NORTH MISSISSIPPI HEALTH SERVICES, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of October 2026. Mississippi's larger hospital systems and regional medical centers account for the majority of openings, particularly in Jackson and along the Gulf Coast.
Which Mississippi cities have the most registered respiratory therapist jobs?
Jackson, Gulfport, and Tupelo have the most registered respiratory therapist openings in Mississippi. Jackson leads as the state's largest medical hub, anchored by major hospital systems and the University of Mississippi Medical Center, while Hattiesburg and Gulfport generate strong demand through their regional acute care hospitals and growing outpatient respiratory programs.
Are there remote registered respiratory therapist jobs in Mississippi?
Yes, but they're rare. The small share of remote roles typically involves telehealth respiratory consultations, utilization review, or care coordination functions.
How can I get hired as a registered respiratory therapist in Mississippi with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to new-graduate positions at Mississippi's larger hospital systems, including Merit Health facilities and Forrest Health, which hire new RRT graduates into structured orientation programs with supervised clinical mentorship. Candidates coming from roles such as respiratory therapy technician, pulmonary function technician, or sleep study technician have a clear lateral path into staff RT positions.
