Tips for Your Remote Adjunct Faculty Job Search
Apply early to remote roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists remote adjunct faculty openings from across the U.S. in one place, so you can find roles that match your subject area and apply directly without sorting through campus-based postings mixed in from other boards.
Show your async teaching ability upfront
Remote hiring committees want evidence you can run a course without real-time supervision. Include links to recorded lectures, asynchronous discussion board samples, or online course modules you have built in Canvas, Blackboard, or a comparable learning management system.
Frame your cover letter around remote delivery
Generic teaching cover letters cost you in remote screens. Describe specifically how you structure feedback cycles, hold virtual office hours, and maintain student engagement in an online format. Concrete practices signal you are prepared for the format from day one.
Prepare for a remote teaching demonstration
Many online institutions replace the traditional in-person demo lesson with a recorded or live Zoom session. Practice delivering a 10-to-15 minute lesson directly to camera, use screen sharing for any slides, and confirm your audio and lighting before any scheduled interview.
Remote Adjunct Faculty Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote adjunct faculty job?
Target online universities, ed-tech companies, and community colleges with fully remote course offerings, since those institutions build adjunct rosters specifically for distributed delivery. Remote employers screen for async communication skills, self-directed course management, and experience with learning management systems like Canvas or Blackboard. A demonstrable online teaching portfolio or recorded lecture sample gives candidates a clear edge over applicants with only in-person credentials.
Which companies hire remote adjunct facultys?
Employers currently hiring remote adjunct facultys include Walden University, William & Mary, and TERRESTRIS, per current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. These include fully online universities, ed-tech platforms, and traditional institutions that have expanded their remote course catalogs across undergraduate, graduate, and professional development programs.
Can you get a remote adjunct faculty job with no experience?
Yes, but remote entry-level adjunct roles are harder to land because institutions expect you to manage a virtual classroom independently from day one. Fully online community colleges and ed-tech platforms are the most accessible entry points. Candidates can substitute formal teaching experience with subject-matter expertise, a relevant graduate degree, tutoring history, or workplace training they have delivered in a professional setting.
Do you need a degree for remote adjunct faculty jobs?
Usually, yes. Most accredited institutions require at least a master's degree in the subject area you would teach, and some doctoral programs require a doctorate. Remote employers weigh demonstrated subject expertise, prior online course development, and familiarity with remote instructional tools alongside formal credentials, so a strong professional background can support an application where the degree field is adjacent rather than exact.
Which industries hire the most remote adjunct facultys?
The sectors hiring the most remote adjunct facultys are Education, Aerospace & Defense, and Science & Research, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. These sectors rely on distributed adjunct rosters to scale course capacity without adding full-time faculty headcount at a fixed campus location.
