Physician Preceptor – Collaborative Practice

About the Position

Elite Medical Care is seeking a Tennessee-licensed physician to serve as a Physician Preceptor/Collaborating Physician for a clinical pharmacist practicing in Family Medicine under a Collaborative Practice Agreement (CPA).

This is a limited, flexible clinical oversight position designed for an experienced physician who is interested in supporting collaborative physician-pharmacist practice without assuming responsibility for the pharmacist's routine day-to-day patient encounters.

The position is particularly well suited for a physician who values evidence-based medicine, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the expanding role of pharmacists in primary care.

Responsibilities

The Physician Preceptor will:

• Provide clinical oversight consistent with the established Collaborative Practice Agreement.
• Review approximately 5% of patient charts each month, currently representing approximately two (2) charts per month.
• Provide clinical consultation when requested or when a patient situation warrants physician involvement.
• Review selected patient encounters for clinical appropriateness, documentation, medication management, and adherence to the CPA.
• Provide recommendations or guidance when clinically appropriate.
• Participate in periodic communication with the pharmacist regarding patient care and collaborative practice.
• Support quality assurance, patient safety, and evidence-based clinical practice.
• Maintain appropriate documentation of required chart reviews and clinical oversight.

What This Position Is — and Is Not

This is a limited preceptor/clinical oversight role, not a traditional full-time physician position.

The Physician Preceptor is not expected to routinely see, manage, or review every patient encounter. The pharmacist independently provides patient care within the authority and limitations established by the Collaborative Practice Agreement.

The primary recurring responsibility is the review of approximately 5% of patient charts per month (currently about two charts), with additional physician consultation available when clinically appropriate.

Qualifications

Required:

• Active, unrestricted Tennessee physician license.
• Current clinical practice in Tennessee.
• Ability to provide appropriate clinical consultation and oversight.
• Commitment to collaborative, patient-centered care.
• Good professional standing.

Preferred:

• Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or primary care experience.
• Experience working collaboratively with pharmacists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, or other advanced healthcare professionals.
• Interest in chronic disease management, medication management, and ambulatory care.

Time Commitment

The anticipated routine commitment is minimal:

Approximately two chart reviews per month, based on the current patient volume and 5% chart-review requirement.

The physician will also be available for occasional clinical consultation when needed. The schedule is flexible and can generally be coordinated around the physician's existing professional obligations.

Compensation

Compensation: $250

Compensation may be structured as an hourly rate, per-chart review, or monthly professional stipend, depending upon the final agreement.
