Sales Advisor Jobs in South Dakota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales advisor in South Dakota?
The path depends on the specialty: most sales advisor roles in South Dakota require at minimum a high school diploma and on-the-job training, while financial products and insurance advisors must obtain a South Dakota insurance producer license through the South Dakota Division of Insurance, which requires completing a pre-licensing education course and passing the state licensing exam. Retail and automotive sales roles typically hire without a license and train new hires internally.
Which companies hire sales advisors in South Dakota?
Employers hiring sales advisors in South Dakota right now include CENTRAL DIESEL SALES, Northwestern Mutual, and Butler Machinery Company, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. South Dakota's strong retail, banking, and healthcare sectors mean steady openings across both large national employers with local branches and regional companies headquartered in the state.
Which South Dakota cities have the most sales advisor jobs?
Sioux Falls, Rapid City, and Brookings are the cities with the most sales advisor openings in South Dakota. Sioux Falls drives the largest share of listings as the state's commercial and financial hub, home to major banking, insurance, and retail employers, while Rapid City benefits from a mix of tourism-driven retail and regional business services, and Aberdeen serves as a center for agricultural and healthcare-related sales activity.
Are there remote sales advisor jobs in South Dakota?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields, since many sales advisor roles involve in-person client interaction or floor presence. About 25% of sales advisor openings tied to South Dakota are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting a mix of on-site retail positions and more flexible insurance or financial advisory roles. Remote options appear most often in insurance sales and inside sales positions where client contact happens by phone or video.
How can I get hired as a sales advisor in South Dakota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is applying to retail sales associate or customer service representative roles at established South Dakota employers such as Scheels, large grocery chains, or regional auto dealerships, which routinely hire and train candidates without prior sales experience. Completing a South Dakota Division of Insurance pre-licensing course signals commitment to employers in financial and insurance sales. Moving laterally from a customer service or cashier role at the same employer is a common and proven path into a formal sales advisor title.
