Sales Engineering Manager Jobs in Maine: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales engineering manager in Maine?
Most sales engineering managers in Maine follow a path from an engineering or technical sales individual contributor role into team leadership, typically after several years of consistent quota attainment and client relationship management. Maine does not require a state-issued license for this role. A bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field is the standard baseline, and employers in sectors like defense and life sciences often expect familiarity with regulated product environments or government contracting processes specific to Maine's industries.
How much do sales engineering managers make in Maine?
Sales engineering managers in Maine earn a median of about $158,660 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $66,280 for the lowest 10% to over $213,950 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire sales engineering managers in Maine?
Maine sales engineering manager roles are posted by General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, Quanta Services, and Quanta Infrastructure Solutions and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Maine's strongest hiring activity for this role comes from companies in advanced manufacturing, defense technology, and life sciences instrumentation based in or near Portland and the midcoast region.
Which Maine cities have the most sales engineering manager jobs?
Maine, Portland, and Bath account for the largest share of sales engineering manager openings in Maine. Portland drives volume as the state's commercial hub, home to technology firms and life sciences employers, while Bangor and Augusta draw openings from defense contractors and state-adjacent enterprise technology companies serving government and institutional clients across central and northern Maine.
Are there remote sales engineering manager jobs in Maine?
Yes, and more than many management roles, because sales engineering work often centers on virtual demos, solution architecture reviews, and distributed team oversight that translates well to remote formats. About 27% of sales engineering manager openings tied to Maine are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting broader flexibility in technical sales leadership. The portions most commonly offered remotely are team coaching, proposal development, and cross-functional product alignment, while in-person presence is typically expected for strategic account visits or on-site customer engagements.
How can I get hired as a sales engineering manager in Maine with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a sales engineering manager role from a senior sales engineer or technical account management position at a Maine employer, rather than applying for management directly from outside. Companies like IDEXX Laboratories and larger defense contractors operating in Maine often promote strong individual contributors into team lead or associate manager roles before a full manager title. Building a record on enterprise deals, mentoring junior engineers, and earning certifications relevant to your sector, such as those tied to industrial automation platforms or regulated life sciences products, signals readiness to Maine hiring managers evaluating internal and external candidates.
Where can I find and apply to sales engineering manager jobs in Maine?
