Job Description:
Step into a visible, high-impact leadership role where your decisions directly shape engineering outcomes across an entire business area. The Senior Manager, Integration Systems & Encryption Functional Engineering leads cross-discipline teams to deliver mission-critical capabilities, accelerate program execution, and raise technical performance across a portfolio of programs.
This role offers the opportunity to build and scale exceptional teams, influence strategy with senior leaders, and drive meaningful change through modern engineering practices, clear accountability, and a strong culture of ownership. If you are energized by complex challenges, leadership at scale, and the chance to make a lasting impact, this is a role where you can lead from the front and deliver results that matter.
The Senior Manager, Integration Systems & Encryption Functional Engineering holds uncompromised, division-level accountability for program execution and technical delivery. This leader maintains a strategic dotted-line reporting relationship to the Division Chief Engineer, who carries ultimate responsibility for overall Engineering Execution in the Division. Operating within this framework, the Senior Manager aligns people, processes, and tools to drive divisional milestones while enforcing segment-wide interoperability. The role requires shifting organizational culture to an "Above the Line" ownership mindset, ensuring teams actively reject legacy excuses for program delays. By treating engineering rigor as the primary vehicle for schedule velocity, the Senior Manager eliminates downstream scrap, rework, and re-testing to enable teams to hit critical commitments on time. Additionally, this leader fosters high-stakes innovation through Agile and "Fail-Fast" prototyping without ever compromising baseline safety or verification standards.
Essential Functions:
- Lead one or more cross-discipline engineering teams or a department, including planning, staffing, execution, and continuous improvement.
- Own functional execution for scope, schedule, budget, and technical quality across projects, pursuits, and programs.
- Implement and scale an integrated operating model with clear role ownership, decision rights, and accountability.
- Establish repeatable engineering processes, common tools, and shared metrics to enable segment-wide interoperability.
- Lead cross-functionally across a portfolio of programs to align priorities and deliver results.
- Build and maintain workforce and staffing plans to ensure the right talent capacity for current and future business needs.
- Own recruiting, hiring, performance management, coaching, succession planning, and development of high-performing teams.
- Drive disciplined engineering rigor and verification practices to improve first-time-right execution and reduce rework.
- Enable Agile delivery and rapid prototyping/simulation approaches while maintaining safety, compliance, and mission assurance requirements.
- Partner with Program Management, Chief Engineers, and functional peers on proposal activities, cost estimates, basis of estimate, and manpower planning.
- Communicate and influence effectively across internal and external stakeholders on matters of substantial importance.
- Ability to travel up to 10% (or as required by business needs).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 12 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.
- Broad management and cross-functional leadership experience, including leadership of experienced professionals and/or leaders of leaders.
- Demonstrated success driving execution across multi-discipline engineering teams in a matrixed environment.
- Experience with workforce planning, staffing strategy, recruiting, and talent development.
- Experience with EVMS/CAM responsibilities and proposal development (including BOE generation).
- Experience with program execution frameworks, schedule/cost performance, and risk-driven technical planning.
- Active Secret clearance required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a unionized environment or under a collective bargaining agreement.
- Prior leadership across two or more engineering disciplines (e.g., systems, software, electrical, mechanical, test, specialty engineering).
- Experience working in mission-critical or safety-critical development environments.
- Experience leading organizational change and scaling teams through growth or realignment.
- Familiarity with Agile-at-scale operating models and digital engineering/toolchain modernization.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $146,000.00 - $271,000.00. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. Tips for Your Sales Engineering Manager Job Search
Quantify your team's revenue impact
Hiring managers for sales engineering manager roles want to see how your SE team directly influenced closed revenue. Replace vague language with concrete outcomes: pipeline influenced, win-rate improvements after you standardized demos, or deals unblocked by technical escalations you led.
Highlight your hiring and coaching experience
Most postings require proven experience building and developing SE teams, not just managing them. Call out specific examples: how many SEs you hired, how you structured onboarding, and any formal coaching programs or competency frameworks you introduced to improve team performance.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists sales engineering manager openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target openings by your technical stack depth
Sales engineering manager roles in cloud, security, and data platforms often require hands-on familiarity with the product category, not just leadership experience. Filter openings by the technology domain where your background is deepest so your resume clears the initial technical screen.
Prepare a structured demo-strategy example
Interviewers routinely ask how you redesigned or standardized the discovery and demo process across your team. Have a specific story ready: the problem you identified, the process change you implemented, and the measurable outcome it produced for win rates or deal velocity.
Negotiate scope, not just compensation
When evaluating offers, clarify the reporting structure, headcount authority, and whether the team is pre-sales only or also handles post-sale technical accounts. Scope ambiguity at this level often creates conflict after you join, so get the boundaries defined in writing before you accept.
Sales Engineering Manager Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most sales engineering managers?
The companies hiring the most sales engineering managers right now include PNC Financial Services, ALEUT FEDERAL, and HII, with the largest share of openings in Texas, California, and Virginia, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Enterprise software and cybersecurity vendors consistently account for the highest volume of openings.
How many sales engineering manager jobs are remote?
About 58% of sales engineering manager openings are fully remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how frequently the role operates across distributed sales territories. Pre-sales leadership and technical enablement functions tend to be the most remote-compatible sub-areas, while roles tied to field sales teams or customer onboarding often require regional travel.
How do you become a sales engineering manager?
Most sales engineering managers move up from individual-contributor SE or solutions architect roles after demonstrating consistent technical credibility and cross-functional influence. Building experience mentoring junior SEs, leading team initiatives like demo standardization or competitive playbooks, and taking on interim team-lead responsibilities all signal readiness. Formal leadership development programs and industry certifications in relevant platforms accelerate the transition.
Can you get hired as a sales engineering manager without prior management experience?
Some companies will hire strong senior individual-contributor SEs into a first-time manager role, especially at earlier-stage companies building out the function from scratch. Your case is stronger if you can demonstrate informal leadership: mentoring peers, owning the team's demo environment, leading RFP responses, or coordinating cross-functional product feedback. Framing those contributions explicitly in your resume bridges the gap when direct management experience is limited.
What does the sales engineering manager interview process look like?
Most processes include an initial recruiter screen, a hiring manager conversation focused on leadership philosophy and team structure, and a deeper panel with sales and product stakeholders. Candidates are frequently asked to present a case study on how they would build or improve an SE team, define success metrics, or diagnose a struggling demo process. Expect questions on cross-functional alignment and how you handle conflict between SE and account executive priorities.
Where can I find and apply to sales engineering manager jobs?
You can find and apply to sales engineering manager jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the United States. Search for roles that match your experience level, technical domain, and preferred location, then apply directly to each listing that fits.
