Technical Sales Engineer Jobs in Maine: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a technical sales engineer in Maine?
Most technical sales engineer roles in Maine require a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a closely related discipline, though Maine does not issue a state-specific license for the sales function itself. Candidates who hold a Professional Engineer registration through the Maine State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers gain a strong edge in industries like defense contracting and environmental systems where technical credibility is critical. Pairing that credential with direct industry experience in Maine's manufacturing or marine sectors is the most common path into the role.
How much do technical sales engineers make in Maine?
Technical sales engineers in Maine earn a median of about $95,180 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $46,850 for the lowest 10% to over $141,330 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire technical sales engineers in Maine?
Employers hiring technical sales engineers in Maine right now include Abbott, WEX, and S. J. Rollins Technologies, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Maine's concentration of defense contractors, biotech firms, and advanced manufacturers means many of these openings require deep product knowledge alongside consultative selling skills.
Which Maine cities have the most technical sales engineer jobs?
Portland, Bangor, and Augusta account for the largest share of technical sales engineer openings in Maine. Portland drives volume as the state's commercial hub, home to technology firms and regional headquarters, while Bangor serves as the gateway for employers tied to northern Maine's manufacturing and forestry equipment markets, and Augusta's concentration of state government contractors and healthcare technology companies supports consistent demand in those adjacent corridors.
Are there remote technical sales engineer jobs in Maine?
Yes, and they are more common than in purely hands-on trades, though regular on-site product demonstrations and client visits mean fully remote arrangements are less prevalent than in desk-based roles. About 0% of technical sales engineer openings tied to Maine are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting a hybrid model that combines home-office work with regional travel. Pre-sales consulting, product training, and proposal writing are the functions most often performed remotely.
How can I get hired as a technical sales engineer in Maine with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is moving laterally from a technical role into a sales support or applications engineer position, which large Maine employers like IDEXX Laboratories and General Dynamics Mission Systems use to develop internal talent before placing people in full sales roles. Community College of Maine programs in engineering technology provide foundational credentials that Maine manufacturers recognize, and pairing that with an internship at a Portland-area distributor or a defense-sector supplier builds the territory knowledge employers want. Pursuing an Engineer-in-Training designation through the Maine State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers signals commitment and differentiates candidates with limited direct sales experience.
Where can I find and apply to technical sales engineer jobs in Maine?
You can find and apply to technical sales engineer jobs in Maine on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your background and target industry, and apply directly to each employer through the listing.
