Technical Sales Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a technical sales engineer in Texas?
Most employers in Texas require a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, computer science, or a closely related field. Texas does not impose a state-issued license specific to technical sales engineering, but roles in regulated industries such as oil and gas infrastructure or high-voltage electrical equipment may expect a Professional Engineer credential from the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Candidates who combine an engineering foundation with formal sales training or industry certifications move into roles fastest.
How much do technical sales engineers make in Texas?
Technical sales engineers in Texas earn a median of about $130,610 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $78,730 for the lowest 10% to over $201,850 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire technical sales engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring technical sales engineers in Texas right now include Apple, Google, and Samsara, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's density of energy, semiconductor, and industrial automation companies means hiring is consistent across both large multinationals with regional headquarters and mid-size specialty firms serving the Gulf Coast and Permian Basin markets.
Which Texas cities have the most technical sales engineer jobs?
Austin, Dallas, and Houston have the most technical sales engineer openings in Texas. Houston drives demand through its concentration of energy technology, petrochemical, and industrial automation companies, while Dallas attracts roles tied to enterprise software and telecommunications hardware, and Austin's semiconductor and SaaS sector has expanded technical sales hiring substantially over the past decade.
Are there remote technical sales engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely desk-based roles because technical sales engineers regularly travel to customer sites for demonstrations, installations, and relationship management. About 33% of technical sales engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to cover the pre-sales and solution consulting portions of the role that do not require an on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a technical sales engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for associate or junior technical sales roles, inside sales engineer positions, or applications engineering roles at large Texas industrial and technology employers. Companies like Emerson, Siemens, and Texas Instruments run rotational or new-graduate programs in the Houston and Dallas areas that move engineers into customer-facing roles. A Professional Engineer candidate registration in Texas, a relevant industry certification, or a strong internship in a Texas energy or manufacturing environment gives applicants a clear edge over candidates without regional context.
Where can I find and apply to technical sales engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to technical sales engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to the state. Search the listings for roles that match your industry background and experience level, then apply directly to the employers posting them. No sign-up is required to see open positions.
