Technical Sales Engineer Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a technical sales engineer in New York?
Most technical sales engineer roles in New York require a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a closely related field, though no state-issued license or registration is required for the role itself. New York employers in sectors like medical devices or industrial automation often prefer candidates who hold relevant product certifications from manufacturers or professional bodies such as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Starting in a field applications, systems integration, or inside technical sales role at a New York employer is the most direct path to a full technical sales engineer position.
How much do technical sales engineers make in New York?
Technical sales engineers in New York earn a median of about $137,480 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $78,690 for the lowest 10% to over $218,680 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire technical sales engineers in New York?
Employers hiring technical sales engineers in New York right now include Google, Arista Networks, and VAST Data, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of life sciences firms on Long Island and enterprise technology companies in Manhattan means demand is especially consistent across those two sectors.
Which New York cities have the most technical sales engineer jobs?
The cities with the most technical sales engineer openings in New York are New York, Buffalo, and Albany. New York City leads because of its density of enterprise software, financial technology, and healthcare companies, while Long Island and the Albany area generate openings tied to defense contractors, advanced manufacturing, and state government technology procurement.
Are there remote technical sales engineer jobs in New York?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely desk-based roles because much of the work involves on-site product demonstrations and customer visits. About 43% of technical sales engineer openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the blend of field and office responsibilities the role carries. The portions of the role most likely to be performed remotely are initial discovery calls, technical proposal reviews, and post-sale support.
How can I get hired as a technical sales engineer in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is to start in an inside sales or field applications role at a New York-based manufacturer or technology distributor, where you build product knowledge before moving into a full territory position. Large New York employers in industrial automation and life sciences regularly hire recent engineering graduates into sales development or applications engineer associate programs. A relevant manufacturer certification, a strong capstone project, or a lateral move from a technical support or systems integration role can give a candidate a meaningful edge when experience is limited.
Where can I find and apply to technical sales engineer jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to technical sales engineer jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current New York openings updated regularly. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly to the employers posting them.
