Industry certifications such as the Certified Protection Professional credential from ASIS International strengthen candidacy and are commonly listed in New Jersey postings.
How much do security managers make in New Jersey?

Which companies hire security managers in New Jersey?

New Jersey's concentration of pharmaceutical headquarters, financial services firms, and large hospital systems like RWJBarnabas Health creates steady year-round demand for security management professionals across the state.
Which New Jersey cities have the most security manager jobs?
Jersey City, Lakewood, and East Rutherford have the most security manager openings in New Jersey right now. Newark and Jersey City drive volume through their dense mix of financial institutions, logistics hubs, and corporate campuses, while Princeton attracts postings from the pharmaceutical and biotech corridor that runs through central New Jersey and employs large security and compliance teams.

Yes, but they're rare. About 71% of security manager openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how much of the role depends on on-site oversight of personnel, facilities, and physical access systems. The portions most suited to remote work are policy development, vendor management, compliance reporting, and information security functions within larger security programs.
How can I get hired as a security manager in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving up from a licensed security officer or security supervisor role at one of New Jersey's large healthcare systems, corporate campuses, or logistics operators, where internal promotion into management is common. RWJBarnabas Health and Atlantic Health System both run structured security operations teams that promote from within. Earning the New Jersey Security Officer registration and pairing it with an associate or bachelor's degree in criminal justice accelerates that transition significantly.
