Senior Project Management Jobs in Alaska: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior project management in Alaska?
Reaching a senior project management role in Alaska typically requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or business, followed by several years of field or office experience in Alaska's dominant industries: oil and gas, defense contracting, or public infrastructure. The Project Management Professional credential is the most universally recognized qualifier and is expected by most Alaska employers at the senior level. Alaska has no state-issued project management license, so the PMP combined with direct industry experience is the clearest path.
How much do senior project managements make in Alaska?
Senior project managements in Alaska earn a median of about $99,580 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $53,360 for the lowest 10% to over $160,710 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior project managements in Alaska?
Employers hiring senior project managements in Alaska right now include American Traveler, Goldbelt, and Liquor Stores USA, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Alaska's senior hiring tends to cluster around federal contractors, energy operators, and state agencies overseeing major capital programs.
Which Alaska cities have the most senior project management jobs?
Anchorage, Juneau, and Sitka have the most senior project management openings in Alaska. Anchorage dominates as the state's commercial and government hub, home to the largest concentration of federal agencies, energy companies, and engineering firms, while Fairbanks and the Matanuska-Susitna Valley support active hiring tied to military installations such as Fort Wainwright and large regional infrastructure programs.
Are there remote senior project management jobs in Alaska?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields because senior project management in Alaska often requires direct site oversight on remote oil fields, construction corridors, or federal installations. About 11% of senior project management openings tied to Alaska are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with most of those being program or portfolio oversight roles rather than hands-on site management positions.
How can I get hired as a senior project management in Alaska with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a project coordinator or project administrator role at an Alaska engineering firm, general contractor, or state agency, then building toward the PMP credential while accumulating documented hours. Large Alaska employers such as the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities and federal contractors regularly bring on coordinators who grow into senior roles over time. A completed PMP application, even before the exam, signals commitment and gives candidates a measurable edge over unverified applicants.
Where can I find and apply to senior project management jobs in Alaska?
You can find and apply to senior project management jobs in Alaska on Migrate Mate, which lists current Alaska openings across industries and experience levels. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your background and location preferences, and apply directly through each listing.
