About The Team
Developer Experience & AI Velocity is a new team chartered to own developer experience for Wonder Engineering — 400+ engineers across multiple converging organizations — with AI as the primary lever. We build the tools, integrations, and practices that let engineers ship faster, with less overhead and controlled costs.
AI coding tools are now a primary interface for writing, reviewing, testing, and debugging software at Wonder, but adoption so far has been left to individual engineers with no team officially owning the space. We're changing that: standing up the toolchains, workflows, and golden paths that a combined engineering org will run on, starting with code review at scale, context infrastructure for AI agents, and AI-assisted paths for well-understood engineering work.
About The Opportunity
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help stand up this team from its earliest days and bring AI-enabled development practices to Wonder Engineering. You'll design and build solutions to solve context fragmentation, MCPs/CLIs, skills, sub-agents, and integrations that connect AI tooling to Wonder's codebases and systems, and the AI-assisted workflows — code generation, review, testing, documentation, refactoring, on-call/incident management — that engineers use every day.
This person brings proven AI-tooling developer patterns and practices from outside Wonder that we haven't yet discovered internally. You'll partner closely with the team's other engineers across the company, each of whom owns a distinct part of the developer-experience surface area, and with the platform, infrastructure, and application teams whose workflows you're improving.
The Impact You Will Make
Build AI-Native Developer Tooling: Design and ship Context aggregation solutions, MCPs/CLIs, skills, and sub-agents that give AI coding tools sanctioned, reliable access to Wonder's codebases, services, and systems. Help define and stand up Wonder's autonomous development agents and cloud agent solutions.
Bring Outside Patterns In: Bring a sharp point of view on where AI-assisted development actually creates leverage across review, testing, code generation, and documentation, and translate the best emerging practices into standards that fit Wonder's stack, scale, and constraints.
Raise the Ceiling on Review: Contribute to pre-review and triage tooling that clears and automates mechanical and policy issues before a human looks, and help define standards for reviewing AI-generated code.
Instrument for Efficiency, Not Just Adoption: Design and implement the systems that optimize AI costs across the org and abstract model selection away from engineers' day to day, so the platform routes each task to the right model at the right cost without every engineer having to reason about it. Help define and measure Developer velocity.
Guide Technical Outcomes: Scope, design, and ship developer tooling with minimal oversight, weighing tradeoffs and partnering with platform, infrastructure, and application teams to land it in production.
Communicate Effectively: Write clear specs and documentation, and provide, seek, and incorporate feedback from a team and organization still defining its own practices.
What You Bring to the Table
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including recent, hands-on work building with or on top of LLM-based tooling (agents, MCP servers, coding assistants, or similar).
Direct experience integrating AI tools into real development workflows — code review, testing, code generation, or documentation — beyond individual use as an end user.
Strong system design skills and a track record of owning tools or platforms end-to-end, from design through adoption.
Comfort operating with ambiguity: this is a new team without established playbooks, and you'll be shaping them.
Experience designing and consuming APIs, webhooks, or other integration/message-based systems.
Experience building developer tooling, internal platforms, CI/CD systems, or other software used by engineers as its primary users.
Experience with Java/JVM and/or Python is a plus, though not required.
A pragmatic approach to problem solving and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical obstacles.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to drive technical discussions with engineers and leaders across multiple teams.
Our hybrid model requires 3 days a week in the office. That said, many team members choose to come in more often to take advantage of in-person collaboration and connection. You're welcome—and encouraged—to be in the office up to 5 days a week if it works for you.

Tips for Your Senior Software Engineering Job Search
Tailor your resume to architecture decisions
Senior roles require evidence of technical leadership, not just execution. Rewrite each bullet to show a decision you owned, the tradeoff you weighed, and the outcome for the team or system, not just the technology you used.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists senior software engineering openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter openings by your systems depth
Senior postings often hide their real stack two paragraphs in. Read the responsibilities section, not just the requirements list, to confirm the role involves system design, cross-team coordination, or technical mentorship at the level you want.
Prepare a system design case before interviews
Most senior-level loops include at least one open-ended design round. Choose a real distributed system you built or significantly changed, practice explaining your constraints, your tradeoffs, and what you would do differently now.
Address the scope gap in your cover letter
If you are moving from a smaller engineering org to a larger one, or from IC to a tech-lead hybrid, name that transition directly. Hiring managers at senior levels want to know you understand the difference in coordination overhead and influence model.
Negotiate total compensation across all components
Senior offers typically include equity, a signing bonus, and performance targets alongside base pay. Confirm vesting schedules, cliff dates, and refresh cadence before accepting, since these components often vary more than the base figure does.
Senior Software Engineering Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most senior software engineerings?
The companies hiring the most senior software engineerings right now include CVS Health, JPMorganChase, and Google, with the largest share of openings in California, Texas, and Washington, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Demand is concentrated in companies scaling platform infrastructure, modernizing legacy systems, or growing their product engineering teams.
How many senior software engineering jobs are remote?
About 57% of senior software engineering openings are fully remote or hybrid as of September 2026, making it one of the more flexible roles in tech hiring. Platform engineering, backend infrastructure, and data engineering sub-areas tend to have the highest share of fully remote postings compared to roles requiring close product collaboration.
How do you become a senior software engineering?
You earn a senior software engineering title by moving beyond individual feature delivery into owning technical decisions, mentoring peers, and driving projects across team boundaries. Build a record of shipping systems that other engineers depend on, take on on-call and incident ownership, propose architectural improvements proactively, and ask your manager to articulate the specific criteria your company uses for the promotion.
How do you get hired as a senior software engineering with limited experience at that level?
You can get hired as a senior software engineering without a prior senior title if your resume demonstrates senior-level scope, meaning projects you led end to end, technical decisions you owned, and engineers you influenced. Target startups and growth-stage companies where scope expands faster, and be explicit in interviews about the breadth of systems you have touched, not just the features you shipped.
What does the senior software engineering interview process look like?
The senior software engineering interview process typically includes a recruiter screen, a technical phone screen covering coding fundamentals, a system design round where you architect a distributed or large-scale solution, a behavioral round assessing how you influence and collaborate, and a hiring manager conversation focused on scope and technical leadership. Some companies add a take-home component or a debugging exercise before the final loop.
Where can I find and apply to senior software engineering jobs?
You can find and apply to senior software engineering jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your background and apply directly to each one that fits.
