OUR CULTURE
Reducing accidental firearm injuries and deaths requires original thinking and authentic collaboration, so we’re deeply invested in building a team and culture that can achieve our mission together. Team members enjoy autonomy and flexibility from day one, so expect to be immediately tasked with solving challenging problems and building new systems that work. We’ll hold you accountable for executing audacious goals, giving and receiving honest feedback, and helping your teammates succeed. You’ll receive respect, kindness, and support from every direction while you figure out how to get it all done.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As Senior Software Engineer II, Web Platform at Biofire, you will take ownership of the platform behind our customer-facing website — the system of record for everything from browsing and account access to checkout on a regulated product. You'll start by getting to know the stack inside and out: assessing its architecture, integration points, and technical debt, then turning that assessment into a pragmatic roadmap for how the platform needs to evolve to support Biofire's growing digital marketing efforts and rising traffic.
From there, you'll build the platform capabilities that let Marketing move independently — self-service content publishing, analytics, and experimentation infrastructure — while also raising the bar on reliability: consolidating observability, setting clear SLOs for critical journeys like authentication and checkout, and strengthening release infrastructure so the team can ship frequently and with confidence. This is a full-stack, full-ownership role: you'll work across frontend, API, data, and infrastructure, and partner closely with Marketing, Design, and CX to keep the platform's evolution grounded in what the business actually needs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Day-to-day responsibilities of the role will include:
Design, build, and ship changes across the full stack — frontend, API, data, and infrastructure — without needing a specialist at any layer;
Own Biofire's customer-facing web platform end to end: assess the current architecture, set a pragmatic technical roadmap that supports the company's digital growth, and personally build the changes it calls for;
Build platform capabilities that enable self-service digital marketing, including CMS-driven content publishing, analytics pipelines, and experimentation infrastructure;
Improve platform reliability and observability, establishing dashboards, alerting, and SLOs for critical user journeys such as auth, checkout, and account access;
Strengthen release infrastructure so the team can deploy to production frequently and with confidence;
Plan and roll out architectural changes deliberately, weighing the potential impact of each change and documenting the rationale for major decisions;
Partner with Marketing, Design, and CX to surface technical constraints early, propose practical alternatives, and define clear ownership boundaries between engineering and stakeholder teams.
QUALIFICATIONS
We understand that not all applicants will possess skills that perfectly align with our job qualifications. At Biofire, we appreciate diverse experiences from various industries, and we encourage all individuals who meet the necessary qualifications to submit their applications. While having the "desired" qualifications may strengthen a candidate's profile, we also welcome applicants with alternative experiences to apply.
Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of production web platforms across multiple projects or problem domains;
Proven full-stack fluency across the modern web stack (Next.js, TypeScript, React, Prisma, GraphQL) including the operational layer — deployment, CI/CD, auth, CMS integration, and payment processing;
Strong system design instinct, including the ability to spot structural weaknesses in a production codebase and its deployment pipeline and address them without introducing new risk;
Track record of shipping quickly and delivering work that holds up over time without a tail of rework;
Comfort operating in a commerce- and regulatory-heavy domain where data correctness is non-negotiable, including orders, payments, and regulated inventory state;
Strong cross-functional partnership skills: clear recommendations, honest and early communication, and reliable delivery with non-engineering stakeholders.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
In addition to competitive pay, as a full-time employee at Biofire you are eligible for:
Stock Options in Biofire, 401(k), HSA - and other financial benefits
Medical Insurance - including plan options with $0 payroll deduction
Dental, Vision and Life Insurance Plans - with $0 payroll deduction
3 Weeks Vacation and Sick time (Flex Time for salary positions), and 13 Paid Holidays
Parental Leave - and other family-building, adoption and surrogacy benefits
The compensation range for this role is $180,000 - $210,000/annual salary + stock options + benefits. Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
LOCATION
This is a full-time, salaried role. Our dog-friendly, state-of-the-art headquarters is located in beautiful Broomfield, Colorado, between Boulder and Denver. The team regularly engages in collaborative in-person sessions at our vibrant office space, but you will be offered the flexibility to work from home as needed. We expect you to bring your very best, and in return, we will provide the support necessary for you to excel. You'll collaborate with colleagues you appreciate, respect, and find inspiration from, and have access to all the technical resources needed.
DIVERSITY & INCLUSION
We’re bringing innovation to a technological problem that has persisted for decades, so we depend on diverse, inclusive, and collaborative teams to break new ground and do great work. We welcome people from all qualified backgrounds, and we don’t discriminate based on race, religion, color, political affiliation, national origin, gender (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age
Compensation Range: $180K - $210K

Tips for Your Senior Web Engineer Job Search
Tailor your resume for architecture impact
Highlight decisions you owned, not just technologies you used. Hiring teams at the senior level want to see that you drove adoption of a framework, refactored a critical system, or reduced load times measurably. List the outcome, not just the stack.
Showcase your portfolio with context
Link to live projects or case studies that explain the problem, your solution, and the tradeoffs you made. A GitHub repo with no readme tells reviewers nothing. Annotate what you built, why you chose that approach, and what you would do differently now.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists senior web engineer openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter openings by tech stack match
Senior roles often require depth in a specific stack, not breadth across all of them. When searching, prioritize openings where your primary language and framework appear in the first half of the requirements, not buried in a nice-to-have section.
Prepare system design answers with specifics
Interviews at this level focus on designing scalable, maintainable systems under real constraints. Practice walking through trade-offs between consistency and availability, or between build and buy decisions, using concrete examples from your own past work.
Negotiate beyond base compensation
Senior web engineers often have room to negotiate equity vesting schedules, signing bonuses, remote flexibility, and professional development budgets. Come prepared with a clear list of priorities so you can trade strategically rather than accepting the first revised offer.
Senior Web Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most senior web engineers?
The companies hiring the most senior web engineers right now include Esri, Adobe, and Amazon, with the largest share of openings in California, New York, and Texas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Demand is especially concentrated in fintech, healthtech, and enterprise SaaS.
How many senior web engineer jobs are remote?
About 70% of senior web engineer openings are fully remote or hybrid as of August 2026, making it one of the more flexible roles in software engineering. Frontend-heavy and full-stack positions tend to offer the highest share of remote options, while roles tied to on-premise infrastructure or regulated industries lean more toward hybrid or in-office arrangements.
How do you become a senior web engineer?
Becoming a senior web engineer typically requires building several years of hands-on experience shipping production web applications, taking ownership of architectural decisions, and mentoring less experienced teammates. You progress by moving beyond feature work into system design, leading cross-functional projects, and developing expertise in performance, reliability, or a specialized part of the stack.
Can you get hired as a senior web engineer without extensive experience?
Getting hired at the senior level without years of traditional experience is possible if you can demonstrate depth through other signals. Open-source contributions with real adoption, a portfolio of complex side projects with documented decision-making, or a strong record of leading technical work in a smaller organization can substitute for years at a large company in many hiring processes.
What does the senior web engineer interview process look like?
The senior web engineer interview process typically includes a recruiter screen, a technical phone or video interview covering coding fundamentals, one or more system design sessions where you architect a scalable web application under realistic constraints, and a final round with engineering leadership that may include a work sample or past-project walkthrough. The system design stage carries the most weight at this level.
Where can I find and apply to senior web engineer jobs?
