Position Summary
Solxsys Administrative Solutions is seeking an experienced Director of Software Engineering to lead our software engineering team and help drive the continued development, modernization, and scalability of our technology platform.
This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who can successfully balance people leadership, software architecture, development standards, technical strategy, and execution. The Director of Software Engineering will work closely with executive leadership, Information Technology, Business Analysts, Operations, and other stakeholders to translate business needs into reliable, secure, and scalable technology solutions.
The ideal candidate is an experienced software engineering leader who understands how to build strong development teams, improve development processes, establish accountability, and deliver high-quality software in a growing organization.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and develop the software engineering team while establishing clear expectations, priorities, and accountability.
Oversee the design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance of company software applications and platforms.
Establish and enforce software development standards, coding practices, documentation requirements, and quality controls.
Provide technical leadership and architectural direction for new development and modernization initiatives.
Evaluate existing applications and architecture and identify opportunities to improve performance, scalability, reliability, security, and maintainability.
Partner with executive leadership to establish the software development roadmap and prioritize technology initiatives.
Work closely with Business Analysts and operational departments to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions.
Oversee development timelines, resource allocation, project priorities, and delivery commitments.
Establish effective development processes, including code reviews, source control, testing, release management, and deployment practices.
Promote appropriate use of automation, DevOps practices, CI/CD, and modern development tools.
Ensure appropriate software security practices are incorporated throughout the development lifecycle.
Partner with IT and security leadership to support cybersecurity, data protection, business continuity, and SOC 2 compliance requirements.
Develop and monitor engineering performance metrics and provide regular updates to executive leadership.
Participate in recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, performance management, and professional development of engineering personnel.
Evaluate third-party technologies, development tools, integrations, and vendors as appropriate.
Troubleshoot and provide leadership on complex technical issues and production problems.
Maintain appropriate technical documentation for applications, architecture, integrations, and development processes.
Support the organization’s continued exploration and responsible implementation of AI, automation, and emerging technologies.
Perform additional technology initiatives and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
10+ years of progressive software development experience, including significant experience designing and developing enterprise applications.
5+ years of software engineering leadership or management experience preferred.
Demonstrated experience leading software developers and managing multiple development initiatives simultaneously.
Strong understanding of modern software architecture, application development, APIs, databases, integrations, and cloud technologies.
Experience with relational databases and SQL.
Preferred developer experience in full stack c#/.NET.
Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), Agile development methodologies, source control, testing, and release management.
Experience with DevOps and CI/CD environments preferred.
Experience modernizing legacy applications or transitioning systems to modern architectures strongly preferred.
Strong understanding of application security and secure development practices.
Experience working in a regulated, healthcare, benefits administration, financial services, or other data-sensitive environment is a plus.
Experience supporting SOC 2 or similar compliance frameworks is preferred.
Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
