The Role
We are currently seeking a highly experienced Backend Software Engineer with a strong Java background to join our Trading suite of products—including Rebalancing, Order Management System (OMS), and Investment Book of Record (IBOR).
We're building a scalable, tax-efficient trading & rebalancing platform for wealth management firms of all sizes. The platform will target sophisticated rebalancing strategies across equities, mutual funds and fixed income products and send trades to be completed in the market.
You will play a significant role in driving complex, long-term technical designs from concept to delivery, ensuring our solutions are scalable, resilient, and secure. You will leverage your deep expertise in software design patterns and distributed systems to solve challenging problems and pioneer the adoption of new technologies. While you will educate and empower other engineers, this is fundamentally a hands-on technical leadership role where you will work closely with product and design teams to deliver exceptional products for our clients.
Addepar takes a market-based approach to pay. A successful candidate's starting pay will be determined based on the role, job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions.
The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target base salary for roles in Colorado, California, and New York. The current range for this role is $187,000 - $234,000 (base salary) + bonus + equity + benefits.

What You'll Do
- Architect, implement, and maintain engineering solutions to solve complex problems; write well-designed, testable code.
- Lead individual project priorities, deadlines, and solutions.
- Collaborate effectively with product managers, engineers, and partners on projects.
- Active support of business needs during US hours.Act as an engineering representative to the client and product support and steer communications from engineering standpoints.
- Communicate technical ideas and set direction on projects with a focus on solving business challenges.
- Mentor other engineers on the team.
- Participate in the design and development of a strategic product for Addepar.
- Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code that's also scalable and extensible
Who You Are
- B.S., or M.S. in Computer Science or similar technical field of study (or equivalent practical experience).
- 8+ years of software engineering experience.
- Expert-level proficiency in backend development, with a focus on Java.
- Experience with databases, SQL, NoSQL, OLAP, and/or data lake architectures
- You have a deep and expert knowledge of software design patterns, API design, and the software development lifecycle
- Proven ability to influence technical direction and make significant contributions to the architecture of complex, distributed systems
- Expertise in cloud platforms, preferably AWS
- Comfortable working in a cloud context, with automated infrastructure and service-oriented architecture
- You have a track record of amplifying your impact by mentoring other engineers
- A strong ownership mentality and drive to solve the most important problems.
- Experience with Java, Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, and related technologies is preferred
