Tips for Your Strategy Consultant Job Search
Quantify your case work outcomes
Consultants are hired to move numbers. For every project on your resume, name the business problem, your specific workstream, and the measurable result. Avoid vague phrases like 'supported strategy development' when you can write 'reduced procurement costs by restructuring three supplier contracts.'
Tailor your resume to the engagement model
Boutique strategy firms, Big Three firms, and internal corporate strategy teams all read resumes differently. Boutiques want industry depth, large firms want structured problem-solving signals, and corporate roles want change management and stakeholder experience. Match your bullets to the model you're applying into.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists strategy consultant openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target the right firm tier for your background
Strategy roles differ sharply by firm type. If you're coming from industry rather than a consulting firm, internal strategy and operations roles at large corporations or PE-backed companies are a more direct path than applying to MBB cold. Filter openings by employer type to stay realistic and focused.
Prepare a structured case answer framework
Most strategy consultant interviews include at least one case. Practice structuring your response in under two minutes: define the problem, state your framework, walk through two to three hypotheses, and land on a recommendation. Interviewers score structure and communication, not just the final answer.
Negotiate scope before you negotiate salary
At the offer stage, get clarity on client mix, travel expectations, and staffing ratios before discussing compensation. A lower-titled role at a firm with strong client access and mentorship often builds more optionality than a higher title with repetitive work and minimal exposure.
Strategy Consultant Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most strategy consultants?
The companies hiring the most strategy consultants right now include PwC, Deloitte, and ZS Associates, with the largest share of openings in New York, California, and Illinois, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Demand is concentrated in management consulting firms, financial services companies, and large corporations with internal strategy functions.
How many strategy consultant jobs are remote?
About 75% of strategy consultant openings are fully remote or hybrid as of August 2026, though the share varies significantly by employer type. Internal corporate strategy roles and research-heavy engagements tend to offer the most location flexibility, while client-facing project work at traditional consulting firms typically requires on-site presence at least part of the week.
How do you become a strategy consultant?
Most strategy consultants enter through one of two paths: directly after an undergraduate degree at a firm that runs structured analyst programs, or after completing an MBA. Build your foundation in structured problem-solving, financial modeling, and concise communication. Recruiting for major consulting firms is heavily campus-driven, so case interview preparation and networking with practitioners in your target sector are both essential steps.
Can you get a strategy consultant job without consulting experience?
Yes, candidates without formal consulting experience get hired regularly, particularly into internal strategy roles at corporations, startups, and PE-backed companies. Employers in those settings prioritize demonstrated analytical rigor, a record of working on cross-functional projects, and the ability to communicate recommendations clearly. Framing prior roles around problem-solving and business impact, rather than functional duties, closes most of the perceived gap.
What does the strategy consultant interview process look like?
The process typically runs three to five rounds and combines behavioral interviews with case studies. Early rounds screen for structured thinking and communication through one or two cases. Later rounds add fit interviews assessing leadership, collaboration, and motivation. Some firms include a written case or presentation exercise. Internal corporate strategy roles follow a similar pattern but often weight domain expertise and stakeholder management more heavily than pure case performance.
Where can I find and apply to strategy consultant jobs?
You can find and apply to strategy consultant jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from companies across the United States. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your background and target sector, and apply directly to each listing from the page.
