Student Services Counselor Jobs in Georgia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a student services counselor in Georgia?
Most student services counselor positions in Georgia require a master's degree in counseling or a related field and, for K-12 school settings, a valid Georgia Professional School Counselor certificate issued through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. Candidates pursuing school certification must complete an approved counseling program, pass the relevant Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators exam, and fulfill a supervised practicum. For higher education and community college roles, licensure is not always required, but a master's degree and advising experience carry the most weight.
Which companies hire student services counselors in Georgia?
Companies currently hiring student services counselors in Georgia include Rehab Employee Services, Georgia Tech, and Rehab Employee Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Georgia's broad network of public school districts, University System of Georgia institutions, and technical colleges through the Technical College System of Georgia makes the employer base unusually diverse compared with many other states.
Which Georgia cities have the most student services counselor jobs?
The Georgia cities with the most student services counselor openings are Atlanta, Kennesaw, and Athens. Atlanta leads because of the concentration of Atlanta Public Schools, Atlanta metropolitan-area school districts, and major universities like Georgia State and Emory, while Savannah and Augusta reflect strong regional school systems and anchor institutions including Georgia Southern's Armstrong campus and Augusta University that sustain steady counseling demand outside the metro core.
Are there remote student services counselor jobs in Georgia?
Yes, but they're rare. Student services counseling is largely an in-person role built around direct student contact, and most Georgia openings require on-site presence in a school, college, or community setting. About 9% of student services counselor openings tied to Georgia are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with virtual options most common in adult education programs, online degree programs, and some college academic advising roles that serve distance learners.
How can I get hired as a student services counselor in Georgia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a graduate practicum or internship placement within a Georgia school district or University System of Georgia institution, which frequently converts to a hire. Large districts like Gwinnett County Public Schools and DeKalb County School District run structured student teaching and counseling intern pipelines that welcome new graduates. Candidates from adjacent roles such as school social worker, academic advisor, or student affairs coordinator often transition in with minimal additional credentialing, and holding or actively pursuing the Georgia Professional School Counselor certificate gives applicants a clear edge over unlicensed candidates.
Where can I find and apply to student services counselor jobs in Georgia?
You can find and apply to student services counselor jobs in Georgia on Migrate Mate, which lists current Georgia openings updated regularly. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level, preferred setting, and location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
