Job Description:
This role supports field operations by performing precise layout, measurement, and verification activities that ensure construction work aligns with project design, control, and specifications. The role is responsible for collecting and validating survey data, establishing and maintaining project control, performing interior and exterior layout, and capturing and reporting accurate as-built information.
Responsibilities:
- Take personal responsibility for working safely within an incident and injury free culture.
- Verify the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites.
- Use established horizontal and vertical project control to validate layout points, elevations, and benchmarks.
- Identify inconsistencies, errors, or potential field challenges and recommend corrective actions.
- Determine key features of survey areas using Robotic Total Stations, Builder’s Levels, Laser Levels, Grade Lasers, Theodolites, Tape Measures, Layout String, Chalk Lines, and plumb bobs.
- Read, compute, and interpret decimal feet.
- Understand survey stake writing, terminology, and standard abbreviations.
- Transfer and verify elevations between USGS benchmarks and Project 100'-0" elevation.
- Capture accurate as-built shots for documentation, issue resolution, and comparison to design documents.
- Establish building grids and perform interior layout.
- Determine Northings and Eastings for critical features and boundaries.
- Record all daily activity, survey/layout results, findings, solutions, and problems in a work journal and provide weekly reports to project management.
- Import and export point files, DXF files, and other data into survey data collectors.
- Maintain a daily work journal documenting survey activities, layout results, issues, and resolutions.
- Provide weekly reports and ad hoc summaries to project management.
- Enter, transcribe, store, and maintain survey information in written or electronic formats.
- Ensure proper document retention and organization.
- Manage survey material inventory and report needs to project management.
- Maintain, clean, and calibrate survey tools and equipment.
- Apply general knowledge of CAD and electronic documentation software.
- Other duties as assigned.
