Tax Specialist Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax specialist in Florida?
The most direct path is earning a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance and then obtaining a CPA license through the Florida Board of Accountancy, which requires passing the Uniform CPA Examination and meeting Florida's education and experience requirements. Many employers also value the Enrolled Agent credential issued by the IRS, which permits unlimited practice before the IRS and does not require a state license. Starting in public accounting at a regional Florida firm builds the compliance and advisory foundation most employers expect.
How much do tax specialists make in Florida?
Tax specialists in Florida earn a median of about $49,020 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $30,380 for the lowest 10% to over $94,330 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax specialists in Florida?
Employers hiring tax specialists in Florida right now include Intuit, ADP, and L3Harris, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Florida's large base of multinational corporations, regional financial services firms, and major healthcare systems keeps demand for in-house and public accounting tax professionals consistently high across the state.
Which Florida cities have the most tax specialist jobs?
Orlando, Tampa, and Maitland have the most tax specialist openings in Florida. Miami's concentration of multinational corporations and international finance firms drives the largest share of postings, while Tampa's mix of insurance, healthcare, and professional services employers and Orlando's hospitality and real estate sectors generate steady demand across all three metros.
Are there remote tax specialist jobs in Florida?
Yes, and more than most fields, because tax work is largely document-driven and does not require a physical presence for most tasks. About 40% of tax specialist openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, reflecting the broad shift toward flexible work in accounting and finance. Compliance review, return preparation, and tax research roles are the most likely to be offered remotely, while client-facing advisory and audit-support roles tend to stay on-site or hybrid.
How can I get hired as a tax specialist in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is applying for a staff tax associate or tax analyst role at one of Florida's large public accounting firms, such as a Big Four or regional firm with offices in Miami, Tampa, or Orlando, many of which run structured new-graduate programs for candidates who have completed their accounting degree but not yet passed the CPA exam. Entry-level roles in accounts payable, bookkeeping, or payroll at Florida employers can serve as lateral moves into tax, especially when paired with progress toward an Enrolled Agent credential or active CPA exam candidacy registered with the Florida Board of Accountancy.
Where can I find and apply to tax specialist jobs in Florida?
You can find and apply to tax specialist jobs in Florida on Migrate Mate, which lists current Florida openings updated regularly. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
