Which Missouri cities have the most tax specialist jobs?
St. Louis, Missouri, and Kansas City have the most tax specialist openings in Missouri. St. Louis leads because it is home to multiple Fortune 500 headquarters and a large regional accounting firm presence, while Kansas City's financial services sector and growing corporate base drive strong demand, and Springfield supports a smaller but stable market anchored by regional employers and professional services firms.

About 83% of tax specialist openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, reflecting how well the work translates to a desk-based, software-driven environment. The most realistic entry path is applying for a tax associate or staff accountant role at a regional public accounting firm, since firms like Brown Smith Wallace in St. Louis or BKD in Springfield regularly hire candidates who are new to tax work. Internships during a final year of an accounting program are a recognized stepping stone, and passing at least one section of the CPA exam signals commitment that gives candidates an edge.
