Billing Specialist Jobs in Missouri: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a billing specialist in Missouri?
Missouri does not require a state-issued license to work as a billing specialist, so most employers look for a high school diploma or associate degree alongside relevant billing or coding experience. For medical billing roles, earning a Certified Professional Biller credential through the American Academy of Professional Coders or a Certified Billing and Coding Specialist designation strengthens your candidacy significantly. Many Missouri community colleges, including St. Louis Community College and Ozarks Technical Community College, offer billing and coding certificate programs that align with what local employers expect.
Which companies hire billing specialists in Missouri?
Missouri billing specialist roles are posted by MILBANK LLP, KC CARE Health Center, and Evertrue and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Missouri's large healthcare systems and insurance carriers drive the bulk of consistent openings, particularly in the Kansas City and St. Louis metro areas.
Which Missouri cities have the most billing specialist jobs?
Kansas City, Springfield, and St. Louis have the most billing specialist openings in Missouri. St. Louis and Kansas City lead because of their dense concentration of major hospital systems, regional insurance carriers, and corporate headquarters, while Springfield's strong healthcare sector anchored by Mercy Hospital and CoxHealth sustains steady demand even outside the two largest metros.
Are there remote billing specialist jobs in Missouri?
Yes, and more than most fields, because billing work is desk-based and largely digital. About 17% of billing specialist openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly Missouri's healthcare systems and insurance companies have adopted flexible billing team arrangements. Medical billing, insurance claims processing, and revenue cycle auditing are the functions most likely to offer fully remote schedules.
How can I get hired as a billing specialist in Missouri with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is to apply for patient accounts representative or billing clerk roles at Missouri hospital systems, which routinely hire candidates without prior billing experience and provide on-the-job training in their specific platforms and payer mix. BJC HealthCare and SSM Health both run new-hire training programs for revenue cycle support staff in the St. Louis area. Completing a short billing or coding certificate at a Missouri community college and gaining basic familiarity with Epic or Meditech gives candidates a clear edge over applicants with no credentials at all.
Where can I find and apply to billing specialist jobs in Missouri?
You can find and apply to billing specialist jobs in Missouri on Migrate Mate, which lists current Missouri openings across healthcare systems, insurance companies, and other employers. Find roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to the ones that match.
