Bookkeeper Jobs in Missouri: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a bookkeeper in Missouri?
Missouri does not require a state-issued license to work as a bookkeeper, so the path runs through education and voluntary credentials. Most Missouri employers expect at least an associate degree in accounting or business, and many prefer candidates who hold the Certified Bookkeeper designation from the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers or a QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification. Both are recognized by Missouri hiring managers at regional firms, health systems, and corporate finance departments.
Which companies hire bookkeepers in Missouri?
Missouri bookkeeper roles are posted by State of Missouri, Swink Coplen & Company, P.C., and e2e and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Missouri's concentration of healthcare networks, financial services firms, and mid-size manufacturers in Kansas City and St. Louis means consistent demand across multiple industries throughout the year.
Which Missouri cities have the most bookkeeper jobs?
St. Louis, Kansas City, and Springfield account for the largest share of bookkeeper openings in Missouri. Kansas City and St. Louis drive the most volume because of their corporate headquarters, regional bank branches, and large healthcare systems, while Springfield's growing small-business and healthcare sectors create steady demand for bookkeepers in the southwest part of the state.
Are there remote bookkeeper jobs in Missouri?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 45% of bookkeeper openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based nature of the work. Roles focused on accounts payable, bank reconciliation, and cloud-based ledger management are the most likely to be fully remote, while positions that involve handling physical receipts or supporting on-site payroll are more often in-office.
How can I get hired as a bookkeeper in Missouri with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an accounts payable clerk or billing coordinator role, which Missouri employers at regional accounting firms, community hospitals, and mid-size manufacturers use as a starting point for bookkeeping staff. Completing a QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification before applying gives candidates a concrete edge. Community colleges like Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City and St. Louis Community College offer accounting certificate programs that Missouri employers recognize as preparation for entry-level bookkeeping work.
Where can I find and apply to bookkeeper jobs in Missouri?
You can find and apply to bookkeeper jobs in Missouri on Migrate Mate, which lists current Missouri openings across Kansas City, St. Louis, Springfield, and smaller markets. Search for roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
