Cost Accountant Jobs in Missouri: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a cost accountant in Missouri?
A bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is the standard entry point for cost accountant roles in Missouri. While no state license is required to work as a cost accountant, earning a CPA through the Missouri State Board of Accountancy or pursuing the CMA credential through the IMA significantly strengthens your candidacy. Missouri employers in manufacturing and healthcare strongly favor candidates who combine formal education with hands-on exposure to cost systems and ERP platforms.
How much do cost accountants make in Missouri?
Cost accountants in Missouri earn a median of about $76,590 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $49,290 for the lowest 10% to over $128,300 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire cost accountants in Missouri?
Companies currently hiring cost accountants in Missouri include Environmental Restoration, Augmentis, and Kforce, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Missouri's deep manufacturing base, anchored by automotive, aerospace, food processing, and chemicals, means large industrial employers consistently drive the bulk of cost accounting demand across the state.
Which Missouri cities have the most cost accountant jobs?
St. Louis, St Louis, and Saint Joseph have the most cost accountant openings in Missouri. St. Louis leads because of its concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, major health systems, and manufacturing firms, while Kansas City draws from its logistics, financial services, and food production sectors, and smaller markets like Springfield reflect the regional distribution and healthcare employers based there.
Are there remote cost accountant jobs in Missouri?
Yes, and more than many finance roles, since cost accounting is primarily an analytical and desk-based function. About 33% of cost accountant openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how spreadsheet and ERP-driven work translates well to distributed teams. Month-end close support, variance reporting, and financial modeling tasks are the parts of the role most commonly performed remotely.
How can I get hired as a cost accountant in Missouri with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for staff accountant or accounting analyst roles at Missouri manufacturers or distributors, which often serve as a direct pipeline into cost accounting. Large Missouri employers in food processing, aerospace, and healthcare routinely hire recent accounting graduates into rotational or general ledger roles that build toward cost functions. Completing the CMA exam process or earning an SAP or Oracle certification signals readiness for cost-focused work and gives candidates a concrete edge over applicants without credentials.
Where can I find and apply to cost accountant jobs in Missouri?
You can find and apply to cost accountant jobs in Missouri on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level, industry background, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
