Tax Associate Jobs in Missouri: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax associate in Missouri?
Most tax associate roles in Missouri require a bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related field. Employers strongly prefer candidates who are pursuing or have completed the Uniform CPA Examination, with licensure granted through the Missouri State Board of Accountancy. Public accounting firms typically hire directly from university programs, while corporate employers may accept candidates with a relevant degree and no prior public accounting experience if they show progress toward CPA certification.
How much do tax associates make in Missouri?
Tax associates in Missouri earn a median of about $62,780 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $31,400 for the lowest 10% to over $124,300 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax associates in Missouri?
Employers hiring tax associates in Missouri right now include H&R Block, RSM, and CBIZ, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Missouri's concentration of financial services firms, Fortune 500 regional headquarters, and large regional CPA practices makes it one of the more consistent markets in the Midwest for tax associate hiring throughout the year.
Which Missouri cities have the most tax associate jobs?
Kansas City, St. Louis, and Columbia account for the largest share of tax associate openings in Missouri. St. Louis leads because of its density of regional CPA firms, corporate headquarters, and financial services companies, while Kansas City draws demand from its strong professional services and healthcare sectors, and Springfield supports a growing cluster of regional accounting practices and mid-size corporate employers.
Are there remote tax associate jobs in Missouri?
Yes, and more than many other fields, since tax work is largely document-driven and software-based. About 67% of tax associate openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting a shift that accelerated across public accounting and corporate tax departments. Individual and business tax compliance roles tend to be the most remote-friendly, while roles with heavy client interaction or multi-entity provision work are more likely to require in-office presence.
How can I get hired as a tax associate in Missouri with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to internship or new-associate programs at regional and national CPA firms with Missouri offices, including firms that recruit directly from University of Missouri, Saint Louis University, and Rockhurst University accounting programs. Large employers such as Edward Jones and regional firms like RubinBrown and Anders run structured first-year associate tracks designed for candidates with no prior tax experience. Passing the first section of the CPA exam before applying gives candidates a measurable edge over others at the same experience level.
Where can I find and apply to tax associate jobs in Missouri?
